{"id":233295,"date":"2021-08-27T12:00:20","date_gmt":"2021-08-27T17:00:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=233295"},"modified":"2021-08-30T08:19:40","modified_gmt":"2021-08-30T13:19:40","slug":"darell-berg-aug-26-2021","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=233295","title":{"rendered":"Darell Berg -Thursday August 26, 2021"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Darell Berg, 70, Valley City, ND passed away at the Sheyenne Care Center on August 26, 2021.\u00a0 His funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Wednesday, September 1, 2021 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Valley City.\u00a0 Visitation will be at the church on Tuesday from 5:00 until 7:00 with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.\u00a0 Darell will be laid to rest in the Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.\u00a0 The prayer service and funeral service will both be live streamed then archived and can be viewed along with his obituary on his tribute page at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lerudschuldt.com\/\">www.lerudschuldt.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Darell Dean Albert Berg was born in Mercy Hospital, Valley City, ND on July 28, 1951 to Olga (Olufson) and Albert \u201cSlim\u201d Berg.\u00a0 He attended Washington Elementary School and then Valley City High School, graduating in 1970.\u00a0 After graduation, he enlisted in the North Dakota National Guard, where he began his career working as a mechanic in the shop.\u00a0 In 2003, he was deployed to Iraq with the 141<sup>st<\/sup>\u00a0ND National Guard Unit.<\/p>\n<p>On March 9, 1974, he was united in marriage to Cindy Fath.\u00a0 To this union, 3 children were born.\u00a0 They made their home in Valley City where Darell continued his career with the ND National Guard.\u00a0 They later divorced.<\/p>\n<p>He married Judy Johnson on December 16, 2003.<\/p>\n<p>Darell had a 39 year career with the National Guard before his health forced him to retire.\u00a0 He was honorably discharged and retired on July 28, 2011 with the ranking of SFC.\u00a0 He spent a year in Iraq as a communications specialist during Operation Iraqi Freedom.\u00a0 During his military service, he received numerous medals and ribbons<\/p>\n<p>On Easter Sunday, 2009, he had a brain stem stroke.\u00a0 He stayed home for as long as he was able and then spent 5 years at Mary Hill Manor in Enderlin, ND.\u00a0 Darell wanted to be closer to home and was able to move into the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>He was a lifetime member of the AmVets.\u00a0 Darell was inducted into the Valley City Bowling Hall of Fame in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Darell is survived by his wife, Judy; three children, Darren of Sioux Falls, SD, Mark of Fargo, ND and Jenni (Ryan) Marquart of Valley City; stepchildren, Lee and Michael Middlestead; a sister, Carol Dahl and friend Dave Hayen of Valley City; nieces and nephews, Pam (Mike) Nelson of Casselton, ND, Brenda (Jeff) Halverson of Ft.
