(UJ<\/a>)\u00a0 The top-ranked University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team took care of No. 23 Doane (Neb.) University in three sets Friday night at Harold Newman Arena, winning 25-15, 25-18, 27-25.<\/p>\n

Kalli Hegerle<\/a> (SR\/West Fargo, N.D.) led the Jimmie offense with 15 kills, and Jayla Ritter<\/a> (SR\/Forest Lake, Minn.) added 11. Ritter hit a team-best .450 on 20 attempts with just two errors.<\/p>\n

Jackie Meiklejohn<\/a> (SR\/Dickey, N.D.) recorded a double-double of 25 assists and 11 digs. Anna Holen<\/a> (SR\/LaMoure, N.D.) finished with 19 digs, followed by Hannah Schiele<\/a> (SR\/Jamestown, N.D.) and Ellie Holen<\/a> (SO\/LaMoure, N.D.) with 17.<\/p>\n

Ritter and Corina Huff<\/a> (SR\/Pequot Lakes, Minn.) each had three block assists, while Hegerle, Aleah Zieske<\/a> (FR\/Spicer, Minn.), and Logan Sherman<\/a> (SO\/Marshall, Minn.) all had two blocks each.<\/p>\n

Jamestown came out strong in set one, outhitting the Tigers .436 to .146, making just one error and finishing with 18 kills. UJ opened with a 5-1 lead and eventually went ahead 11-2. Doane got no closer than eight points at 21-13, and the Jimmies’ final four points all came via kill<\/p>\n

The Tigers stayed with UJ for the first half of set two, trailing just 13-11 before the Jimmies scored six of the next eight points to open up a 19-13 lead. Jamestown once again outhit Doane .263 to .125.<\/p>\n

A 9-2 run to open the third made it seem like UJ would have no trouble finishing off the sweep, but the Tigers had other plans. Jamestown had match point at 24-19, only to have Doane take six straight points and a 25-24 lead. Following a Jimmie timeout, a Tiger attack error evened the score, then kills by Ritter and Zieske finished off the match.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, now 22-0 and 11-0 in the GPAC, hosts Hastings (Neb.) Saturday at 5 p.m.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

(UJ)<\/a>\u00a0 The 13th-ranked University of Jamestown D1 hockey team returned to Wilson Arena Friday night and defeated Midland (Neb.) University 3-0.<\/p>\n

Jason Richter<\/a> (SR\/Kimberly, British Columbia) opened the scoring at the 16:59 mark of the first period, notching his third goal of the year with an assist by Greg Susinski<\/a> (SO\/Calgary, Alberta).<\/p>\n

Quin Garrison<\/a> (JR\/Prince George, British Columbia) made it 2-0 Jimmies at 11:23 of the second, with Keaton Cline<\/a> (SO\/Killarney, Manitoba) and Brenden Vulcano<\/a> (FR\/Nelson, British Columbia) getting the assists.<\/p>\n

Jordon Kromm<\/a> (SO\/Calgary, Alberta) rounded out the scoring in the third with his first of the season, a power play goal at 3:15 set up by Logan Berggren<\/a> (SO\/Cypress, Calif.) and Reid Wilson<\/a> (SO\/Castlegar, British Columbia).<\/p>\n

The Jimmies outshot the Warriors 54-22. Tyson Brouwer<\/a> (SR\/Lethbridge, Alberta) had 22 saves in the shutout.<\/p>\n

Jamestown and Midland finish their weekend series Saturday at 7 p.m.<\/p>\n
