Five separate awards were presented during <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the ceremony: <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Jonathan Skalicky, NDHP, was awarded the NDHP Legion of Honor Medal <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid14\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Officer Jason Runge, Valley City Police Department, received the NDHP Colonel\u2019s\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><strong>Award of Excellence<\/strong> <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid18\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Bryan Bridgeford, West Fargo, ND, received the NDHP Colonel\u2019s Award of Excellence <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid22\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Gabriel Irvis, NDHP, received the ND Peace Officers Association Life Saving\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Award <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid26\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Page-Joshua150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-238709 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Page-Joshua150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"134\" \/><\/a><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Joshua Page, NDHP, received the ND Peace Officers Association Exceptional\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Performance Award <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid29\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid30\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">An additional award was presented, but the individual was unable to attend. His award was\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">mailed to him. The additional award was for Roy Del Ozo, Lawton, OK. He received the\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">NDHP Colonel\u2019s Award of Excellence. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid31\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid32\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Skalicky, Officer Runge, Bryan Bridgeford and Roy Del Ozo received their awards for\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">their involvement with the following incident: <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid33\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page151R_mcid36\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">On July 26th, Bryan Bridgeford called 911 to report a reckless driver. The driver then <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0entered and parked at the Oriska Rest Area. Mr. Bridgeford remained at the rest area\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">observing the vehicle to report updates to law enforcement. Trooper Skalicky <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">responded to the reckless driver call and located the suspect vehicle at the rest area. <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Skalicky-Jonathan150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-238710\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/Skalicky-Jonathan150-115x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"115\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>While attempting to arrest the driver of the vehicle, the driver placed the vehicle in\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">reverse, dragging Trooper Skalicky, causing an injury to him. Shortly thereafter, the <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u00a0suspect attempted to disarm Trooper Skalicky. Trooper Skalicky had lost his radio\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">during the struggle, so Mr. Bridgeford called 911 to report the resisting suspect and the\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">need for additional law enforcement assistance. Mr. Bridgeford and Roy Del Ozo then\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">asked Trooper Skalicky if they could help him. Trooper Skalicky accepted their\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">assistance and the three of them were able to subdue the suspect, place her in\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">handcuffs and into a patrol car. Officer Runge arrived shortly thereafter and assisted <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Skalicky on securing the crime scene and allowing Trooper Skalicky to obtain\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">needed medical care. Trooper Skalicky was out of work for approximately six weeks\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">with the injury he sustained during the incident. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid5\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid6\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Trooper Skalicky was nominated for his medal internally within the NDHP. Officer Runge, Mr. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Bridgeford and Mr. Del Ozo were nominated by Trooper Skalicky for their awards. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid7\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GabrielIrvis150.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-238711\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/GabrielIrvis150-111x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"111\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>Trooper Irvis and Trooper Page received their awards for actions in the following incident: <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid13\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">On December 5th, 2020, Trooper Page attempted to stop a motorist for a traffic\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">violation on I-94 in Fargo. The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed eastbound on I-94,\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">crossing the Red River into Minnesota. After entering MN, the vehicle continued to <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">flee. Trooper Page made the decision to discontinue the pursuit in MN. After\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">discontinuing, Trooper Page continued to drive in MN, eastbound on I-94 to ensure the\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fleeing vehicle did not crash. Just east of the 34th St. overpass in MN, the suspect <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicle had rolled. Trooper Page located one occupant from the vehicle in the median. <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The male occupant had been ejected from the vehicle. The male suspect was alive\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and treatment was provided. A short time later, Trooper Irvis arrived, and a passing\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">motorist alerted Trooper Irvis to a female laying in the westbound lanes of I-94 at the\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">same location. The female had been the driver of the suspect vehicle and was ejected\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in the crash. Trooper Irvis provided medical treatment to include CPR to the female\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and was able to revive her. Once EMS personnel arrived, care was transferred, and <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the female suspect survived the incident. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid16\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid17\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid18\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The NDHP Legion of Honor Medal is awarded to NDHP personnel who are injured in the line\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of duty. NDHP members are nominated by another NDHP member and the nomination is <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">forwarded to the NDHP Awards Committee for consideration and approval. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid19\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid20\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The NDHP Colonel\u2019s Award of Excellence is awarded by the NDHP Superintendent to NDHP\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">employees and citizens for actions that have benefited the NDHP and State of North Dakota. <\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Individuals can be nominated by any NDHP employee for this award. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid22\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The NDPOA Lifesaving Award is for law enforcement officers\u2019 actions that significantly\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">contribute to saving a human life. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid23\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid24\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">The NDPOA Exceptional Performance Award is for law enforcement officers who handle or\u00a0 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">confront an emergency and handle it in a professional manner. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid25\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/> <\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid26\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Thursday, November 4th, 2021, the North Dakota Highway Patrol (NDHP) conducted an awards\u00a0 ceremony at the NDDOT-Valley City District.
