Prosecutors told jurors earlier Wednesday that former Brooklyn Center Officer Kim Potter violated her training and “betrayed a 20-year-old kid.” Defense attorney Paul Engh, meanwhile, told jurors during his opening statement that Potter made a mistake when she pulled her handgun instead of her Taser but that she ‘’did what she had to do” to protect a fellow officer. The prosecution says the former suburban Minneapolis officer had undergone extensive training that warned about such a mix-up. Potter has told the court she will testify at the trial.

In sports…

Jamestown (CSi) The 2021-22 Stutsman County Class B Girls Basketball Tournament run Thursday, December 9th and Friday and Saturday with four games each day at the Jamestown Civic Center.

Thursday Dec. 9

3pm – Medina/PB vs. Ellendale

430pm – Edgeley/KM vs. South Border

6pm – Carrington vs. Warwick

730pm – Napoleon/GS vs. Griggs/Midkota

Barnes County Girl’s Basketball Tournament

Day 1

LaMoure/L-M 46, Maple River, Minn. 34

Sargent County 63, Enderlin 33

Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 64 Barnes County North 27

Thursday, Dec. 9 – Day 2
4:30 p.m.: (4) Maple River vs. (6) Enderlin
6:00 p.m.: (2) Sargent County vs. (3) Wyndmere-Lidgerwood
7:30 p.m.: (1) LaMoure/Litchville-Marion vs. (5) Barnes County North

(VCSU) Valley City State University senior defensive linemen Marshaun Jones and Garrett Pemelton have accepted invitations to play in the NAIA Senior Football Classic on Dec. 17 in Durham, N.C.elton t

Both Jones and Pemelton will play for the NAIA West team, joining other top seniors from across the country in the NAIA’s official all-star game.

The NAIA Senior Football Classic is the premiere event leading into the NAIA Football National Championship. The comments come among swirling concerns about the new variant that first emerged in southern Africa last month. (AP) — After deliberating for five hours over two days, jurors have recommended the death penalty for a man convicted of killing an Orlando police lieutenant four years ago. The 12-member jury in Orlando, Florida, on Wednesday agreed with prosecutors that Markeith Loyd should face capital punishment for the 2017 shooting death of Lt. Debra Clayton.
