(AP) \u2014 A young person was arrested for making violent threats on social media at a West Fargo middle school. The West Fargo Police Department said students at Liberty Middle School tipped a security officer to the threat made on Snapchat Thursday. Police made the arrest roughly an hour after the threat was reported. Police say the young person did not intend to carry out any of the violent acts. But they arrested the individual because the threat caused fear and safety concerns.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINOT, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The Minot Head Start program is preparing to fire 18% of its staff next month because they&#8217;ve refused to comply with a federal mandate to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The Minot Daily News reports that the program is funded entirely with federal dollars so teachers and staff must comply with the mandate by January. The program&#8217;s director says the firings will force the closure of six Head Start classrooms and three Early Head Start classrooms. About 100 children in Head Start and 16 in Early Head Start will lose their slots. Parents were notified last week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Federal prosecutors have recommended no jail time for a Wisconsin man who smuggled a bear carcass from Canada into North Dakota. The Wisconsin hunter brought the bear from Canada after exceeding a limit in Manitoba by killing two bears in the same year, KFGO-AM reported. The man pleaded guilty to Unlawful Transportation of Wildlife in Foreign Commerce, which carries a maximum sentence of up to one year in prison and a $100,000 fine. Mychal Johnson, who was a patrol sergeant in the Minneapolis suburb of Brooklyn Center at the time of Wright\u2019s killing, took the stand Friday as prosecutors resumed their case in the manslaughter trial of former police officer Kim Potter, who says she mistakenly fired her gun instead of her Taser. Video also shows Johnson trying to comfort Potter after she shot the 20-year-old Wright, telling her Wright was going to drive away with Johnson in the car. (AP) \u2014 Investigators in Southern California are investigating a fatal crash in which a car rear-ended a school bus and then plowed into a group of walking children, killing a 9-year-old girl and injuring two other kids. A white Cadillac struck the bus Thursday afternoon in the Riverside County town of Desert Hot Springs, east of Los Angeles and north of Palm Springs. The car then went around the bus and hit four students walking home from a bus stop, the California Highway Patrol told KESQ-TV. Monica Gonzalez Guzman of Desert Hot Springs died at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection is subpoenaing six more people who the panel says were involved in the organization and planning of rallies that aimed to overturn Donald Trump\u2019s defeat in the 2020 presidential election. The committee chairman, Rep. Bennie Thompson, says some worked to stage the rallies and \u201csome appeared to have had direct communication\u201d with then-President Trump as they were planning. The rallies before and during the Jan. 6 riot are a major focus of the committee\u2019s investigation. Committee members want to know who financed the events and whether organizers were in close touch with the White House and members of Congress as they planned the events.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) \u2014 A far-right extremist has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for his violent actions during August 2020 protests against racial injustice in Oregon\u2019s largest city. Oregon Public Broadcasting reports Alan Swinney was convicted of unlawful use of a weapon, attempted assault, pointing a firearm at another, second degree unlawful use of mace, among other charges. He was sentenced Friday.
