After the cold air arrives, a band of snow is
expected to move into western North Dakota Wednesday morning,
central North Dakota in the early afternoon, and the Turtle
Mountains and James River Valley by late Wednesday afternoon.

Strong northwest winds will accompany the snow and produce areas
of blowing snow, and reduced visibilities as it moves across the
state. Any one area will probably not see more than a few hours of
strong winds and moderate snow at the same time, but the
combination of snow and blowing snow will produce areas of reduced
visibility, and with temperatures dropping, icy roads will linger
after the snow ends. Snowfall is expected to be mainly an inch or
two for most areas, with a few areas possibly seeing up to three
inches.

In Southeast North Dakota, there is a 20 to 40% chance for near blizzard or blizzard conditions to develop late Wednesday evening into the overnight hours. Most areas are expected to receive 1 to 3 inches of snow during this event with the highest impacts expected from 6pm Wednesday to 6am Thursday morning.

If you have travel plans Wednesday through Wednesday night, be sure
to check the latest forecast and travel conditions before
venturing out. Very cold temperatures will linger over the state
into the weekend.

Beyond the potential for precipitation Wednesday into Wednesday

night, arctic high pressure will nudge down into the area from

Canada. Prosecutors have said Potter was experienced and trained to know better.

In sports…

MADISON, S.D. (NSAA) Valley City State University senior guard Jalen Addison is the NSAA Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.

Addison earned the North Star Athletic Association weekly honor after averaging 21 points and five rebounds per game this past week during a pair of Viking wins.

North Star Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week
Jalen Addison – Valley City State (N.D.) – 6’2″ – Senior – guard – Milwaukee, Wis. – Addison averaged 21.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game as (RV) Valley City State (N.D.) won a pair of home games. He scored 22 points on his 9-of-16 field goals, including 4-of-9 3-points in fueling the Vikings to a 107-63 victory over Maine-Fort Kent. He scored all of 20 of his points in the first half (8-of-12 field goals and 4-of-7 3-pointers) in VCSU’s 104-52 victory over Oak Hills (Minn.), only playing 13 minutes in the game. For the week, Addison totaled 42 points on his 17-of-28 field goals (60.7 percent) and drained 8-of-16 3-pointers (50 percent). He pulled down 10 rebounds and dished out four assists for the week.

Recap from last week’s games
Most North Star Athletic members are idle last week as they prepared for the fall academic final examinations. Presentation (S.D.) remained at 8-5 overall record and Waldorf (Iowa) at 3-7 overall record.

Valley City State (N.D.), receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll, closed out the 2021 portion of the schedule with a pair of home victories. The Vikings cruised past Maine-Fort Kent 107-63 on Dec. 8 and Oak Hills (Minn.) 104-52 on Dec. 12. VCSU is 10-4 overall record on the season.

Mayville State (N.D.) lifted their overall record to 6-3 after a 94-49 victory over Trinity Bible (N.D.) on Dec. 6 and a 95-44 home rout over Maine-Fort Kent on Dec. 9.

Bellevue (Neb.) fell short in an overtime road contest at Iowa Wesleyan by the score of 80-71. The Bruins dropped their overall record to 7-6.

Viterbo (Wis.) split a pair of games during the week. The V-Hawks lost to Olivet Nazarene (Ill.) 89-70 on Dec. 8. VU returned home and earned an 88-69 victory over Mount Mercy (Iowa) on Dec. 10. Viterbo is 5-6 overall record.

Dakota State (S.D.) fell short at home to No. 10 ranked Jamestown (N.D.) 81-71 on Dec. 7. The Trojans are 3-10 overall record.

Dickinson State (N.D.) could not get their first win of the season last weekend at home. The Blue Hawks dropped a 71-64 overtime thriller to (RV) Montana Tech on Dec. 11. DiSU lost an 86-64 contest to Montana State-Northern on Dec. 12. Dickinson State is 0-10 overall record.

In world and national news..

WASHINGTON (AP) — The House is debating recommending criminal contempt charges against former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows. The action would rebuke Meadows for saying he would no longer cooperate with the panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection. That panel voted 9-0 Monday night to recommend the contempt charges. A House vote to hold him in contempt would refer the issue to the Justice Department, which would decide whether to prosecute the former Republican congressman. It would be the first time the House has voted to hold a former member in contempt since the 1830s, according to House records.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The District of Columbia has filed a civil lawsuit seeking harsh financial penalties against far-right groups Proud Boys and Oath Keepers over their role in the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump. The suit also names dozens of the groups’ senior members, many of whom already face criminal charges for taking part in the violent attack. Karl Racine, Washington’s attorney general, says the suit seeks compensation for damages to the city and intends to inflict maximum financial damage on the groups responsible. The suit was filed Tuesday in federal court.

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (AP) — Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo was ordered by New York’s ethics commission Tuesday to give up the millions he was paid to write a book about his response to the pandemic. An attorney for Cuomo immediately called the action unconstitutional and promised a fight. Cuomo was directed to turn over proceeds earned from “American Crisis: Leadership Lessons from the COVID-19 Pandemic” within 30 days under a resolution approved 12-1 by the Joint Commission on Public Ethics. The order came a month after the commission voted to rescind approval of Cuomo’s $5.1 million book deal. Cuomo resigned in August amid findings he sexually harassed 11 women.

JOHANNESBURG (AP) — The omicron variant is offering more hints about what it may have in store as it spreads around the globe: A highly transmissible virus that may cause less severe disease, and one that can be slowed — but not stopped — by today’s vaccines. An analysis Tuesday of data from South Africa suggests the Pfizer vaccine offers less defense against infection from omicron and reduced, but still good, protection from hospitalization. The findings are preliminary and have not been peer-reviewed, but they line up with other early data about omicron’s behavior, including that it seems to be more easily spread from person to person.

CAP-HAITIEN, Haiti (AP) — At least 60 people were killed and dozens more injured after a gasoline tanker overturned and exploded in northern Haiti. The blast occurred shortly after midnight in the coastal city of Cap-Haitien. Early reports indicate that the tanker was trying to avoid an oncoming motorcycle when it flipped. Onlookers then rushed to the scene with buckets to scoop up the tanker’s valuable cargo as it spilled toward a nearby pile of simmering trash. A Nevada State Police spokeswoman said Tuesday the 74-year-old former football hero and actor, acquitted California murder defendant and convicted Las Vegas armed robber was granted good behavior credits and discharged from parole effective Dec. 1.
