Snow is forecast for Tuesday and Tuesday night over western and
\ncentral North Dakota along with gusty winds causing blowing and
\ndrifting snow. Snow totals are forecast to range from less than
\none inch south and west of the Missouri River, to as much as 4
\ninches in spots around the Turtle Mountains. The more major
\ncities of Williston, Minot, Bismarck and Jamestown should end up
\nwith an inch or two.<\/p>\n

Gusty winds are forecast to reach near 35 mph north and east, to
\nas high as 45 mph southwest. This will cause reduced visibility in
\nblowing snow, and drifting snow, especially in areas that get the
\nhigher amounts of fresh snow. Conditions will be worse, of
\ncourse, in open country.<\/p>\n

It will turn much colder, again, for Wednesday and Thursday, then
\nnot as cold for the coming weekend.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi) The North Dakota Highway patrol reports,\u00a0 a one vehicle rollover occurred Monday about 10-a.m. on I-94 at Valley City.<\/p>\n

The driver was merging onto I-94 from exit 292, when the vehicle hit an icy spot, rolling the vehicle which landed on it\u2019s top. The operator\u00a0 was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and released.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol was assisted by Valley City Police and \u00a0the Barnes County Sheriff\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n

Boosters already are recommended for everyone 16 and older, and the FDA says they\u2019re also warranted for 12- to 15-year-olds. The FDA also said everyone eligible for a booster can get one as early as five months after their last dose rather than six months. But the move, coming as classes restart after the holidays, isn\u2019t the final step. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must decide whether to recommend boosters for the younger teens.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (CSi) Jamestown Mayor Dwaine Heinrich says city officials are reviewing the massive Jamestown snow removal from the week of December 28, 2021.<\/p>\n

The mayor said Emergency Snow Routes were cleared first, followed by the rest of the city streets, and alleys.<\/p>\n

On Monday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Mayor Heinrich said plans include \u201cwhat went right, and what went wrong,\u201d during the days after the blizzard that dumped 22 inches of snow and wind-whipped high drifts.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that Street Superintendent Rick Lepetzky and Sanitation former, Sean O\u2019Neill worked diligently in scheduling the snow removal and garbage collections.\u00a0\u00a0 Recycle North Dakota also rescheduled its collections completed within the week.<\/p>\n

The City of Jamestown reminds residents of proper removing of snow from private property and timely removal of ice and snow from sidewalks, according to City Ordinance. <\/a><\/p>\n

Council Member Steele pointed out the challenges that were met by the City Street Crews, following last week’ blizzard, noting community members working together, to get the job done.\u00a0 He asked for the public to be patient in awaiting streets being cleared.<\/p>\n

Mayor Heinrich echoed Steele’s comments, as the mayor said on The Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2.\u00a0 (See Story at CSiNewsNow.com<\/a>)<\/p>\n

He said he looks forward to 2022 be a good positive year for Jamestown.<\/p>\n

OTHER BUSINESS:<\/p>\n

Considered approving the Preliminary Engineering Reimbursement Agreement with the NDDOT on Highway 52 from 4th Ave SW to 18th St SW, Project No. NHU-2-052(049)266, PCN 23350, Contract No. 38211466, and authorizing the City Auditor, City Attorney and Mayor to sign the agreement and the NDDOT authorization.\u00a0 The City Council approved the agreement.<\/p>\n

Approved was the request from Jamestown Gymnastics Club for a site authorization to conduct gaming at the Jamestown Gymnastics Club Board Room on June 13, 2022.<\/p>\n

Proof that \u201ctime heals\u201d, I don\u2019t remember the last time we had so much snow in one storm.\u00a0Depending from where your reading comes, it seems we had 18-20 inches of snow.\u00a0The nice part is, it makes for a beautiful scene in our part of the Sheyenne Valley.<\/p>\n

The snow did make for some challenges of course.\u00a0Our Public Works Crews had to wait for the storm to subside before snow removal could be effective.\u00a0We didn\u2019t get out of our driveway Monday and with the longer duration of the storm; our garbage is waiting to be picked up.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Puppy \u201cpoop\u201d is easily seen in the white snow, please pick up your pet\u2019s waste.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Kudos to our Public Works Crews as once snow removal began it was \u201call hands on deck\u201d.\u00a0Workers jumped in and worked wherever needed be it hauling snow, sanding or plowing.\u00a0Once they began, long hours were worked and the city was pretty well cleaned in about forty hours, running time.<\/p>\n

Over the weekend I went for a couple walks, warm clothes were needed, and I want to say thanks to all of you who have cleaned your sidewalks and driveways.\u00a0It makes walking easier and much safer for mail carriers and delivery people so if you haven\u2019t cleaned yours, please do.<\/p>\n

VCPS and VCSU have fine arts and athletic competitions during this time of winter.\u00a0Get out and watch the kids compete; it is warm in the venues.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown (JRMC)\u2014 The parents of the 2022 New Year\u2019s Baby say he has a special guardian angel.<\/p>\n

Knox Bryan Walden arrived on Jan. 2; the first baby born at Jamestown Regional Medical Center this year. The son of Brooke and Kyle Walden, Leal, N.D., Knox weighed 7 pounds, 9 ounces and measured 20.5 inches tall. Dr. Stacey Roers Irmen delivered the baby at 11:48 a.m.<\/p>\n

Also born on that day was Knox\u2019s cousin in Oregon. Though the family welcomed both infants with joy, they also mourned a loss. Knox\u2019s great-grandmother Delores Demars passed away the same day \u2013 in the early hours of the morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen Knox was born, he needed oxygen to support his breathing. We think Kyle\u2019s grandmother was looking out for him,\u201d Brooke said. \u201cShe had two great-grandchildren on the day she passed away.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe New Year\u2019s baby symbolizes a fresh start and rebirth,\u201d said JRMC Family BirthPlace Manager Emily Woodley. \u201cWe always look forward to welcoming these little ones to the community. Knox\u2019s story gives us goosebumps.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2021, JRMC delivered 331 babies, compared to 319 babies in 2020 and 328 in 2019.<\/p>\n

Knox\u2019s parents as well as big sister Blake, 2, are excited to bring him home. The name \u201cKnox\u201d begins with the same letter as Kyle, just like big sister\u2019s first initial is the same as Brooke\u2019s.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe did that on purpose,\u201d Brooke said, saying both she and Blake have November birthdays and Kyle and Knox have January birthdays.<\/p>\n

Knox\u2019s middle name comes from a deceased family friend, Brooke said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI thought that would be a good way to honor the memory of \u2018Uncle\u2019 Bryan,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

The couple say they hope for what most parents want for their children \u2013 health and happiness.<\/p>\n

\"\"Carrington\u00a0 (CSi) Mason Wede of Carrington, N.D., has announced his candidacy for the primary election in the Senate for District 29 in North Dakota.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Wede, a Republican, noted the recent redistricting<\/a> brought Nelson, Steele, Griggs, Foster, and Stutsman counties under District 29.<\/p>\n

“We, as rural North Dakotans, need someone who will stand up in Bismarck to say we deserve the same benefits as the larger towns do in North Dakota,” he said. ” This disparity has limited choice, forced school merging, and displaced entire communities. Bringing people, resources, and jobs back to our shrinking communities, we can help our local communities rebuild and grow.”<\/p>\n

Wede said he is a third-generation farmer, born and raised in Carrington. He has a Bachelor of Science in computer information technology.<\/p>\n

He said the Legacy Fund can help local communities, and he will fight for income tax relief and elimination, “stand up” for economic and job development, help create jobs and opportunities and fight for better funding for Class B schools.<\/p>\n

District 29 is currently represented by Sen. Terry Wanzek, R-Jamestown; Rep. Chet Pollert, R-Carrington; and Rep. Craig Headland, R-Montpelier.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

OMAHA, Neb. (AP) \u2014 The final 2021 report on a monthly survey of business leaders in nine Midwest and Plains states shows the region’s economy continues to improve going into the new year, with confidence in the economy over the next six months soaring. The overall index for December of the Creighton University Mid-America Business Conditions released Monday grew to 64.6 from November’s 60.2. Any score above 50 on the survey\u2019s indexes suggests growth. The survey\u2019s business confidence index, which looks ahead six months, rocketed from a weak 46.2 in November to 64.0 in December. The monthly survey covers Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The City of Fargo and the municipal board that governs the community\u2019s airport are signing an agreement that gives the airport more autonomy. Formal negotiations have gone on for more than two years and at times have been contentious. The city and the Hector International Airport Authority are signing a memorandum of understanding Monday that changes the 50-year agreement between the two. The airport authority will take over services currently provided by the city, including those related to finances, information services, payroll and other human resource services. And, airport employees are no longer considered to be city employees.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Congress\u2019 top doctor says lawmakers should move to a \u201cmaximal telework posture.\u201d The attending physician, Brian P. Monahan, says there have been surging numbers of coronavirus cases at the Capitol, with most of them breakthrough infections of people already vaccinated. In a letter to congressional leaders, Monahan says the seven-day average rate of infection at the Capitol\u2019s testing center has risen from less than 1% to more than 13%. He says there has been \u201can unprecedented number of cases in the Capitol community affecting hundreds of individuals.\u201d He says about 61% of the cases were the new omicron variant while 38% were the delta variant.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 New York\u2019s attorney general recently issued subpoenas to former President Donald Trump and his two eldest children in connection with an ongoing civil investigation into the family\u2019s business practices. Attorney General Letitia James\u2019 office said in a court filing Monday that it is seeking testimony and documents from Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Ivanka Trump \u201cin connection with an investigation into the valuation of properties owned or controlled\u201d by Trump and his company, the Trump Organization. Trump has sued attempting to end the probe, which he says is politically motivated.<\/p>\n

(AP) Arizona health officials are reporting the highest number of new COVID-19 cases in a year. Monday\u2019s 14,192 new cases were the most ever tallied in a day except for Jan. 3, 2020, when more than 17,000 cases were counted. The state Health Services Department said the new case count was boosted by lower than normal counts on Sunday, when just 701 new cases were reported. The state did say there has been a steep upward trend of cases in recent days. The state reported no new deaths on Monday and just one on Sunday, bringing the total number of pandemic deaths to 24,355.<\/p>\n

LOUISVILLE, Colo. (AP) \u2014 Investigators looking for the cause of the Colorado wildfire that destroyed nearly 1,000 homes have narrowed their search to a sparsely populated neighborhood near Boulder. Authorities say it’s the same area where a passer-by captured video of a burning shed on the day the fire began. Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle says authorities don’t know whether the burning shed started the larger fire or whether it caught fire as a result of other flames. Meanwhile, teams continued searching Monday for two people who were still missing, and survivors sorted through the charred remnants of their homes to find whatever was left.<\/p>\n

CHICAGO (AP) \u2014 Officials say more people were shot to death in Chicago and surrounding Cook County in 2021 than in any other year on record. The county medical examiner’s office said Monday that there were 1,002 gun-related homicides last year in Cook County, which includes Chicago and its surrounding suburbs. That was 121 more than the previous record set in 2020 and nearly twice as many as in 2019. The announcement comes two days after police in Chicago announced that the nation\u2019s third-largest city recorded its most homicides in a quarter-century. In Cook County, Black people were the victims of 80% of the homicides and Hispanic people were the victims in 14% of them.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 A 2009 lawsuit settlement that Prince Andrew’s lawyers claim protects him from being sued by an American woman has been publicly released. The lawyers said the $500,000 settlement between Virginia Roberts Giuffre and Jeffrey Epstein was released in Manhattan federal court on Monday. The prince’s attorneys say a line that prevents Giuffre from suing anyone who could have been a potential defendant in the lawsuit would protect Andrew. Giuffre sued the prince in August, saying he’d sexually assaulted her multiple times when she was 17. The prince maintains the assaults never happened.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 Congress\u2019 top doctor says lawmakers should move to a \u201cmaximal telework posture.\u201d The attending physician, Brian P. Monahan, says there have been surging numbers of coronavirus cases at the Capitol, with most of them breakthrough infections of people already vaccinated. In a letter to congressional leaders, Monahan says the seven-day average rate of infection at the Capitol\u2019s testing center has risen from less than 1% to more than 13%.
