Jamestown\u00a0 (City)\u00a0 Jamestown City crews will begin clearing drifted snow in the Downtown Business District starting Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at 11:00 p.m.<\/strong> All vehicles should be removed from the downtown streets, avenues, and alleyways.
\nThe above schedule is contingent upon changing weather conditions and snow accumulation totals.<\/p>\n

Valley City\u00a0 (CSi) Valley City Public works crews will begin snow removal in downtown Valley City at midnight on\u00a0 Wednesday January 5. Crews will remove snow in residential areas\u00a0 all day Thursday.<\/p>\n

During a snow event public works crews plow Emergency Routes to enable access for ambulances and law enforcement vehicles.<\/p>\n

Valley City officials are\u00a0 reminding residents, all vehicles that are parked on Emergency Snow Routes will be ticketed and towed if\u00a0 not removed as city crews\u00a0 remove snow during the winter.<\/p>\n

Garbage pickup continues as crews have been notified of areas missed earlier this week and arrangements have been made to return and get that garbage picked up as soon as possible.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (JPD)\u00a0 A Montpelier man is in custody following a Jamestown traffic stop Wednesday January 5, 2022,that resulting in a drug seizure.<\/p>\n

Assistant Police Chief, Maj. Justin Blinsky reports, at 9:47-a.m. a Jamestown Police Officer attempted to stop a 1999 Dodge Durango in the 700 block of 10th St. SE. The vehicle failed to stop, leading to a pursuit through streets and alleys in the city.<\/p>\n

Due to icy conditions and snow drifts, officers briefly lost visual contact of the vehicle. During that time, the driver parked and fled on foot.<\/p>\n

Officers located the suspect walking near Gardenette Drive and he was taken into custody. The vehicle was later located in the east alleyway in the 1300 block of 9th Ave. SE.<\/p>\n

\"\"45 year old Jimmie Dale Cox,\u00a0 was searched and officers found approximately 3.5 ounces of Methamphetamine, approximately $1000 in cash, and other evidence that was seized.<\/p>\n

Cox is facing numerous charges including Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer in a Motor Vehicle; Aggravated Reckless Endangerment; Possession of controlled substance Schedule II with intent to deliver (Methamphetamine); Possession of controlled substance Schedule 1 with intent to deliver (Marijuana); Possession of controlled substance Schedule 1 with intent to deliver (other: Tetrahydrocannabinol); and Possession of Methamphetamine Paraphernalia.<\/p>\n

He was transported to the Stutsman County Correction Center awaiting formal charges. Police were assisted by the Stutsman County Drug Task Force.<\/p>\n

The incident remains under investigation.<\/p>\n

\"\"Jamestown\u00a0 (NDHP) On Jan. 5, 2022, at approximately 2:22 pm central time, a North Dakota Highway Patrol Trooper was conducting traffic control in the right lane of Interstate 94 eastbound near mile marker 259 by Jamestown. A vehicle had struck the guardrail and was left unattended in the right lane of I-94. NDDOT plows were working in the area and actively plowing the left lane east of the Trooper\u2019s location and a second truck was stationed behind the squad car with all lights activated.
\nA passenger car and a SUV went around the parked plow and moved to the right lane to pass the second plow working in the left lane. The passenger car attempted to slow and was struck from behind by the SUV; the passenger car then struck the patrol vehicle. All vehicles were towed from the scene. Occupants of the striking SUV were transported to Jamestown Regional Medical Center.
\nAgencies that responded included: ND Highway Patrol, Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s office, Jamestown Police Department, NDDOT and Jamestown Ambulance.
\nThe incident remains under investigation by the Jamestown Police Department.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday\u2019s Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, Stutsman County Veterans Service Officer, David Bratton said, the program assists with purchasing groceries, provides a start-up kit, all distributed through the Fargo VA.<\/p>\n

With COVID-19 he said the VA reported 2.5 million doses of the vaccine nationwide.<\/p>\n

He pointed out that the VA is sending out the yearly award\/benefit letters.\u00a0 His office has more information if any veteran has not received one.<\/p>\n

The veterans resource fair is planned for January 15, 2022, from 10-a.m. to 3-p.m. at the HJemkomst center, in Moorhead, MN.<\/p>\n

David added that qualified veterans may still receive Flu Shots and COVID-19 Shots including boosters at the Jamestown VA Clinic.\u00a0 Call for an appointment for either immunization, through the Department of Veterans Affairs.<\/p>\n

He said the Burleigh County Van is accepting veteran riders to the Fargo VA Clinic. Riders must be fully vaccinated, and wear a facemask. The van has limited capacity.\u00a0 \u00a0Make a reservation through the Stutsman Veterans Service Office, also available at the Stutsman County website.<\/p>\n

The office is located in the lower level of the LEC in Jamestown, open Mon.-Fri. 8-a.m. to noon, and 1-5-p.m.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A federal judge has sentenced a Mandan woman convicted of child neglect to supervised release after she pleaded guilty to a drug conspiracy charge. Prosecutors say 28-year-old Hope Althoff neglected her children while using drugs and took part in a drug trafficking scheme. Federal charges of money laundering conspiracy and illegal use of communication facilities were dismissed. U.S. District Judge Daniel Traynor on Tuesday sentenced Althoff to the time she had already served, more than 300 days, and ordered her to spend three years on supervised release. In August 2019, Althoff pleaded guilty to state charges of felony child neglect and misdemeanor animal neglect. She was sentenced to two years of probation.<\/p>\n

BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Supreme Court has denied the appeal of a man serving life in prison for kidnapping and killing another man in Burleigh County in 2012. John Clark Bridges argued in his appeal that mental illness prevented him from understanding the charges against him, aiding in his defense or filing a timely application for relief. The justices ruled in part that Bridges had not presented evidence establishing that he suffers from a mental illness. Bridges is serving a life sentence for the July 2012 murder of Lee Clay, along with 20 years for kidnapping Clay plus an additional 40 years for stabbing a correctional officer at the North Dakota State Penitentiary.<\/p>\n

PHILADELPHIA (AP) \u2014 The deadliest single fire in Philadelphia in at least a century has killed 13 people, including seven children, and sent two people to hospitals. Those numbers could grow after officials said at a news conference hours after the fire early Wednesday that 26 people were staying at the duplex rowhome. It appears that as many as eight people were able to escape. The cause is still being investigated. A fire official says there were four smoke detectors in the building but that none appeared to be working. The Philadelphia Housing Authority owned the house. It says the alarms had been inspected annually and at least two had been replaced in 2020.<\/p>\n

WASHINGTON (AP) \u2014 U.S. health officials say they are not changing the definition of being \u201cfully vaccinated\u201d against COVID-19. But they are urging Americans to stay \u201cup to date\u201d on their virus protection by getting booster shots when eligible. The move to keep the existing definition of fully vaccination \u2014 either two doses of the mRNA vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna or a single dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine \u2014 comes as health officials warned of waning protections from the initial doses. The decision to keep the initial definition means that federal vaccination mandates for travel or employment won\u2019t require a booster dose.<\/p>\n

(AP)\u00a0 An influential government advisory panel is considering COVID-19 boosters for younger teens, as the U.S. battles the omicron surge. Boosters already are recommended for everyone 16 and older. Earlier this week, the Food and Drug Administration authorized an extra Pfizer shot for kids ages 12 to 15 as well. But before those extra shots can begin, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention must sign off. CDC advisers are debating Wednesday how strongly to recommend boosters for the younger teens.<\/p>\n

(AP) Hospitals across the U.S. are feeling the wrath of the omicron variant and getting thrown into disarray that is different from earlier COVID-19 surges. This time, they are dealing with serious staff shortages because so many workers are getting sick. People are showing up at emergency rooms in large numbers in hopes of getting tested for COVID-19. And a surprising number of patients are testing positive for the virus while in the hospital for other reasons. At the same time, hospitals say the patients aren\u2019t as sick as those who came in during the last surge. Intensive care units aren\u2019t as full, and ventilators aren\u2019t needed as much as they were before.<\/p>\n

LOS ANGELES (AP) \u2014 The upcoming Grammy Awards have been postponed due to what organizers called \u201ctoo many risks\u201d due to the omicron variant. The ceremony had been scheduled for Jan. 31st in Los Angeles with a live audience and performances. The Recording Academy said Wednesday it made the decision to postpone the ceremony \u201cafter careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners.\u201d The multitalented Jon Batiste is the leading nominee for this year\u2019s honors, grabbing 11 nods in a variety of genres including R&B, jazz, American roots music, classical and music video.<\/p>\n

NEW YORK (AP) \u2014 Just two weeks before it was to be held in Park City, Utah, the Sundance Film Festival is canceling its in-person festival and reverting to an entirely virtual edition due to the current coronavirus surge. Festival organizers announced Wednesday that the festival will start as scheduled on Jan. 20. The festival had been planned as a hybrid, with in-person and online screenings. Last year\u2019s Sundance was held virtually because of the pandemic. The cancellation of an in-person festival is a huge blow to an independent film industry that has struggled to stay afloat during the pandemic. Sundance earlier announced a slate of 82 feature-length films selected from more than 3,700 submissions. The festival will run Jan. 20-30.<\/p>\n
