(AP) &#8211; A North Dakota man has pleaded guilty to animal abuse charges for the deaths of more than 100 horses.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 William Kiefer, who has homes in Fargo and New Salem, is charged with nine counts of overworking, mistreating or abandoning animals. Each charge carries a maximum sentence of one year in jail.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0South Central District Judge Tom Schneider ordered a presentence investigation.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities seized more than 150 animals from Kiefer&#8217;s properties in the two counties in January after finding nearly 100 dead animals. The seized animals were then adopted out.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Investigators say Kiefer failed to provide necessary food, water and shelter to his animals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISMARCK, N.D.
