(AP) \u2014 A Bismarck freight company with a rich history dating back to 1918 has been sold for $150 million. Midwest Motor Express has been purchased by Knight-Swift, a publicly traded carrier listed on the New York Stock Exchange. Midwest will continue to operate from its headquarters in Bismarck, and its sister company, Midnite Express, will do the same from Fargo. The company began as Snyder\u2019s Dray and Transfer and used horses and wagons to deliver coal, cream, gravel and freight. In 1938, the name changed to Midwest Motor Express and over the decades, the company acquired several truck lines. Midwest has weathered the Great Depression, recessions and three wars.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PEDESTRIAN KILLED<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man killed on highway in Towner County<\/p>\n<p>ROCKLAKE. N.D. PCL (AP) \u2014 The North Dakota Highway Patrol says a man was killed when he was struck by an SUV on a highway in Towner County. The patrol says 65-year-old Charles Huovinen was slouched in a lane of traffic on Highway 281 near Rocklake when he was hit about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The driver of the SUV is a 41-year-old woman from Cando. She and two boys in the vehicle were not injured. The victim was from Rocklake.<\/p>\n<p><strong>ATTORNEY GENERAL-NORTH DAKOTA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Funeral arrangements made for North Dakota attorney general<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 Funeral arrangements have been made for Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem who died last week. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Bismarck Event Center Exhibit Hall. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the North Dakota State Capitol Great Hall. Both are open to the public. Stenehjem, a former legislator and the state\u2019s longest-serving attorney general, died at age 68, just hours after he was taken to a hospital Friday, according to his office. No cause of death has been made public. Stenehjem spent 24 years in the Legislature before being elected attorney general in 2000, then winning five more times.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOME HEATING HELP<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>North Dakota receiving record funds for home heating costs<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) \u2014 North Dakota is getting a record $46.4 million from the federal government to help low-income residents cover heating costs this winter, which is more than twice what the state gets in a typical year. The Biden administration is distributing an additional $4.5 billion nationwide for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program and cold-weather states are receiving the largest share. Minnesota received nearly $274 million in home energy assistance for needy residents. The funding boost is part of last year\u2019s $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan coronavirus relief package. It has more than doubled the normal funding level of the program nationally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BANK ROBBERY-CHARGES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Man charged with robbing bank in downtown Fargo<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) \u2014 A homeless man has been charged with robbing a bank in downtown Fargo. Police say 57-year-old Troy Michael Maynard walked into Wells Fargo Bank just before 3 p.m. Thursday, handed a teller a paper bag, and demanded money. He did not display a weapon. Authorities say Maynard fled the bank on foot with $1,634. Court documents allege Maynard \u00a0robbed the bank to get enough money to obtain housing in Iowa. He planned to hitchhike back to Iowa, but no one would give him a ride. \u00a0Authorities said he got cold and decided to turn himself in.<\/p>\n<p><strong>FATAL SHOOTING<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>1 dead, 2 arrested following shooting in Custer County<\/p>\n<p>SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) \u2014 One person is dead and two people are in custody following a shooting in Custer County. Authorities say the shooting happened Thursday near Red Shirt Table in eastern Custer County. \u00a0The state Division of Criminal Investigation says the shooting was related to a separate incident on the Pine Ridge Reservation involving an Oglala Sioux Tribe Department of Safety officer. The officer was unharmed.
