The majority of roads in the central and western part of the state were closed or had <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">no travel advisories in place because of blizzard conditions. These conditions lasted through Thursday <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">April 14, 2022. North Dakota Highway Patrol Troopers were ready to answer the call and assist the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">public and other state agencies during this historic storm. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page192R_mcid6\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">We are proud of the effort\u2019s troopers put\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">fourth during this severe winter weather event. Here is an overview of incidents and events troopers <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">dealt with and some photos of the conditions they had to endure. This is not a full list of incidents and <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">events as troopers may still need to log their activities.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page192R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page192R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.11.22 &#8211; NDHP and ND Parks and Recreation coordinate movements around the state of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">snowmobiles, Tucker Snowmobile Trail Groomers, and Utility Terrain Vehicles (UTV) for use in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">potential rescue situations because of the incoming blizzard. Locations were based on National <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Weather Service predictions. UTVs were placed in Minot, Bottineau, New Salem, Devils Lake, <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Underwood, Bismarck, Dickinson, Bowman, Carrington, Elgin, Valley City, Marion, and Stanley.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page192R_mcid12\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page192R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page192R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 6:30 pm CDT a trooper responded to a motorist assist on I-94 just west of <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Steele. The motorist went into the ditch and became stuck. The trooper gave two occupants a <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">ride to the Coffee Cup in Steele.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 4:55 pm MDT A trooper responded to a call of a vehicle in the ditch on I- <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">94 in Dickinson. The trooper gave the driver a ride to a hotel in Dickinson.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 2:21 pm MDT A trooper responded to a vehicle in the median on I-94 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">west of Dickinson. The trooper gave the driver a ride to Dickinson. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid15\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">4.12.22 \u2013 At around 1:55 pm CDT A trooper responded to a vehicle in the median on I-94 east <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">of Bismarck. The trooper gave the driver a ride into Bismarck. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page1R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page1R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 9:30 am CDT A trooper responded to a non-reportable property crash in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Bismarck that involved a Bismarck Police Department vehicle.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page5R_mcid3\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 11:26 am MT A trooper responded to a semi in the ditch on I-94 in <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Dickinson.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page5R_mcid3\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\"><span id=\"page5R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\">04.12.22 \u2013 At around 12:30 pm CDT A trooper responded to a crash on I-94 between Sterling and Steele<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span id=\"page10R_mcid18\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">4.12.22 \u2013 At around 8:00 pm CDT A trooper responded to a stranded motorists on Hwy 36 <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page10R_mcid19\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">west of Pingree. The motorist was stuck after trying to avoid the interstate closure. The trooper <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page10R_mcid20\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">used the agencies Emergency Response Team UTV to get from Carrington to the motorist\u2019s<\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page10R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">location. A Stutsman County Deputy also responded to the scene. The trooper and deputy <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page10R_mcid22\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">shoveled the motorist out and the motorist was able to follow the deputy to Jamestown.<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page10R_mcid16\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.22 \u2013 At around 3:30 am CDT A trooper was called out to do a blood run from Minot to <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page10R_mcid17\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Bottineau. The trip took nearly four hours. NDDOT snow plow operators helped clear the way.<span id=\"page16R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\">4.13.2022 \u2013 At about 10:00 pm MDT A trooper responded to the report of a motorist in the<br role=\"presentation\" \/>ditch on Hwy 85 just north of Belfield. The driver was arrested for actual physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page16R_mcid9\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 \u2013 A trooper shuttled 5 State Radio Dispatchers from their home to the Law <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Enforcement Training Academy in Bismarck. Dispatcher stayed at the academy so they could <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">easily access State Radio. <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">.<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page16R_mcid16\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.22- At about 8:15 am CDT A trooper responded to the call of a vehicle in the median near <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">the Crystal Springs Rest Area on I-94. The driver reported being in the vehicle since the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">previous evening. The trooper transported the driver to a hotel in Steele.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"page16R_mcid19\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page16R_mcid20\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page16R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.22 \u2013 A trooper responded from Elgin to pick up two individuals who got stuck about 40 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">miles from Elgin. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 \u2013 NDHP coordinated with NDDOT and NDDES to recover several plow operators <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that were stuck throughout the Minot District. Additionally, members of the North Dakota <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Snowmobile Club, with the coordination of NDDES and ND Parks and Rec, provided rides on<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">snowmobiles to NDHP troopers who had to abandon their stuck vehicles during extreme <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">snowfall and whiteout conditions. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid14\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid14\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 \u2013 At around 5:20 pm CDT Troopers responded to a crash on I-94 between Sterling <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">and Steele. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid21\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 A trooper assisted the McKenzie County Sheriff\u2019s Office with three rescues in the <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Watford City area with aid of their tracked UTV. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid27\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid27\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 A trooper in Minot helped coordinate the removal of approximately 30 CMVs on <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Hwy 2 within the Minot area who were stopped at road closure signs find parking in the Minot <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">area. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid2\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.22 \u2013 A trooper responded from Elgin to pick up two individuals who got stuck about 40 <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">miles from Elgin. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page21R_mcid8\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.13.2022 \u2013 NDHP coordinated with NDDOT and NDDES to recover several plow operators <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">that were stuck throughout the Minot District. The trooper was assisted by a New Salem resident<\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid42\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">who transported some of the motorist for the trooper. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid36\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid37\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid38\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page21R_mcid39\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"page25R_mcid23\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">04.14.22 \u2013 A trooper located two stranded motorists near Almont and coordinated with Almont <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page25R_mcid24\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Fire Department and Morton County Highway Department to have them transported to safety <\/span><\/span><span id=\"undefined\" class=\"markedContent\"><\/span><span id=\"page25R_mcid25\" class=\"markedContent\"><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">in Almont. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"canvasWrapper\"><span id=\"page25R_mcid10\" class=\"markedContent\"><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">\u2022<\/span> <span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">Troopers in the Northwest Region provided countless assistance to stranded and stuck <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">motorists. They discovered abandoned and occupied vehicles, physically shoveling and pushing <\/span><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">vehicles out, providing rides from the scene, providing traffic control for towing operators, and<\/span><br role=\"presentation\" \/><span dir=\"ltr\" role=\"presentation\">providing motorist information at gate closures that were staffed 24\/7 during the closure.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday April 12, 2022, a historical snow storm covered North Dakota with up to 36 inches of snow in some locations.
