\u00a0Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 8, 2013)\u00a0 —\u00a0 Valley City Police continue an investigation that led to the arrest of a Towner man accused of \u00a0several storage unit burglaries in Valley City and across North Dakota.
\n\u00a0
\nThe suspect is 31-year-old Zachariah Grotberg of Towner.<\/p>\n

Police gathered Information gained from a series of burglaries a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Additional charges are expected be filed as the investigation continues.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Augu 8, 2013) — The Jamestown Police Department investigated a two vehicle accident that occurred Thursday about 1-p.m., at 13th<\/sup> Street Northeast near the intersection of 8th<\/sup> Avenue.<\/p>\n

The accident involved a pickup and an a car. The car ended up into a utility pole.<\/p>\n

Traffic was rerouted.<\/p>\n

No immediate word on injuries, pending the filing of the police report.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) — The Jamestown City Council met in Special Session Thursday evening (Aug 8, 2013) at City Hall. All members were present.<\/p>\n

The Council Members considered renewal of a Letter of Intent with Great River Energy, the draft that was written on June 13, 2013.<\/p>\n

The City Council approved the draft for final action by the City Attorney.<\/p>\n

Evaluations for all department heads were discussed. Mayor Andersen said, presently the City Council does not do the evaluations, and she suggested the City Council be part of the evaluation process.<\/p>\n

City Council Member Ramone Gumke felt the Council should not be involved, not having an interaction with the department heads, which Council Member Buchanan agreed with, saying the City Administrator should manage that area.<\/p>\n

Brubakken also agreed, as did Council Member Kourajian.<\/p>\n

No action was taken on the discussion item.<\/p>\n

The City council discussed the terms for granting an easement to the City of Jamestown from Woodbury Township to place a 16″ water main under 37th<\/sup> St SE in Woodbury Township.<\/p>\n

The city maintains the road, outside of city limits. Mayor Andersen disagreed with maintaining roads outside of city limits.<\/p>\n

Council Member Gumke suggested a counter proposal to limit maintenance.<\/p>\n

The City Council voted unanimously to continue minimum maintenance, in cooperation with Stutsman County in exchange for the easement, with the City Attorney reviewing an agreement.<\/p>\n

The City Council considered the request from Chris and Jennifer Iverson to move a double wide home on the property at 1320 15 \u00bd Ave SW. A neighbor said she was under the impression the was a single wide home. Another neighbor said there was confusion on what type of home was coming into the neighborhood.<\/p>\n

Ms. Iverson said property is being purchased, to place a home, with three separate properties for an option to purchase. She specified the home will be a double wide.<\/p>\n

The City Council voted unanimously to grant the request.<\/p>\n

Unanimously approved was a Trip Hazard Repair Proposal for sidewalks from Precision Concrete Cutting, with the cost coming from the city\u2019s street fund.<\/p>\n

The City Council voted to approve the City Administrator\u2019s contract, for a term of four \u00a0years, retroactive to the expiration date of the former four year contract. Mayor Andersen suggested in the future the contract be for a one year term, along with evaluations. Council Member Buchanan pointed out that City Administrator Jeff Fuchs has tenure with the city and a four year term is appropriate.<\/p>\n

\u3000<\/p>\n

The City Council approved a preliminary plan for reconstructing the Civic Center Patio, including ramping, and a trellis. Initially the upper level stairs will be repaired and modified.<\/p>\n

The estimated cost is about $65,000. The city will look into possible grant money.<\/p>\n

The City Council approved a request from the North Dakota State Hospital to enter into a Memorandum Of Understanding with the City of Jamestown for use of the Jamestown Civic Center, located at 212 3rd<\/sup> St NE, Jamestown, ND, in the event of short term shelter need during an emergency. Council Member Brubakken noted that he is an employee of the State Hospital.<\/p>\n

The City Council authorized the City Engineer to file the appropriate permit with the ND State Water Commission relative to Great River Energy and City Wells. Public Hearings will be held on the topic in the future.<\/p>\n

Council Member Gumke, who will not be present for the August City Council Police Committee meeting he brought up a wage study for City Police Department employees.<\/p>\n

He said a decision needs to be made on the scope of work for a firm to discuss a wage study.<\/p>\n

The meeting was shown live on CSi Cable 67 followed by replays.<\/p>\n

News) — Friday August 9, 2013, at 5-p.m., is the deadline to register booths for the Block Party.Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce, Executive, Felicia Sargeant says, as of Thursday afternoon 87 booths were spoken for, with only about a hand full of spaces left. The registration deadline will NOT be extended past Friday August 9, 2013 at 5-p.m.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 8, 2013) — Officials with Thrifty White Pharmacy have announced that it will relocate its White Drug Park Plaza Shopping Center store into the former China Garden restaurant building, on 10th<\/sup> Street Southeast in Jamestown.<\/p>\n

Plan is to open in the new location in late September this year.<\/p>\n

Officials say, Thrifty White Pharmacy had remodeled and updated its merchandise at its Park Plaza Shopping Center store recently to boost sales at the location.<\/p>\n

Also, Thrify White Pharmacy will continue to operate the general merchandise portion of the shopping center store through October 31st<\/sup> this year.<\/p>\n

The company is currently updating the former China Garden restaurant building on 10th Street Southeast \u00a0to accommodate the new use.<\/p>\n

Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News Aug 8, 2013) — The Jamestown Patriotic Council invites all veterans, auxiliaries and their families to a picnic Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the VFW Memorial Park. The park is located three miles north of Jamestown on Highway 20.<\/p>\n

There will be a flag raising at 12 noon followed by a concert by the Jamestown Drum & Bugle Corp. A picnic dinner featuring fried chicken, potato salad, beans, buns and homemade bars will be served following the concert.<\/p>\n

There will be a $5 per person charge to cover expenses.<\/p>\n

FARGO, N.D. (AP) – Police in Fargo say a 26-year-old man is charged with felony child abuse after officers saw him abandon his baby in a stroller before being chased.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Kenneth Eagleman of Fargo was charged Tuesday in Cass County District Court.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Documents in the case say that a Wal-Mart security officer reported that Eagleman was at the store Monday afternoon despite being barred from Wal-Mart and wanted on arrest warrants.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Police say an officer saw Eagleman pushing the stroller and told him to stop, but he took off running and left the 2-year-old girl in a business’ driveway. A nearby sports store worker grabbed Eagleman and held him for officers.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Eagleman’s public defender, Nicholas Thornton, said he couldn’t comment on a pending case.<\/p>\n

\u00a0WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) – Williams County commissioners have rejected permit extension requests from two oil field crew camps and sent a message to others that time is running out for them to pay their permit fees.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Williston Herald reports that some crew camps have paid their fees, but more than $3 million is still owed to the county. The commission is requiring all crew camps to pay what they owe by Tuesday or they will be shut down.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Commissioners cited safety concerns and neighbor complaints for not extending the permits of the two crew camps. Those camps have 60 days to shut down.

Jerald Roemmich says the signup is planned for Monday August 19, 2013 at the Hillcrest Softball Complex, from 5-p.m., to 6:30-p.m.<\/p>\n

He said that equipment will be handed out at the time of signup, and pointed out that parents or guardians must accompany the player to registration, needing permission and a signature to participate.<\/p>\n

The cost is $60 per player, and includes a football jersey, and the use of equipment.<\/p>\n

The date of the mandatory parents meeting will be announced.<\/p>\n

Teams will be assigned after the players have been assessed by their skills.<\/p>\n

Midget Full Contact Football will be on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6:30-p.m., to 8-p.m. (Please be on time to pick up your player(s) after practice and games.) Game nights are on Thursdays.<\/p>\n

ROSEVILLE, Minn. (AP) – A project engineer from a northwest Minneapolis suburb has come forward to claim one-third of a $448 million Powerball jackpot. Paul White, of Ham Lake, was introduced\u00a0Thursday afternoon at a news conference at the Minnesota State Lottery’s headquarters. The other two winning tickets were sold in New Jersey. White says he learned he was holding a winning ticket this morning after his “significant other” called him to say one of three winners had been sold in Minnesota. He says he purchased 10 tickets for the drawing, and found that one of them matched all six numbers. The winning ticket is worth $58 million, after taxes.
