Valley City\u00a0 (VCSU<\/a>)\u00a0\u00a0 \u2013 Valley City State\u2019s\u00a0Joelle Lamontagne<\/a>\u00a0picked up a pair of wins, including a complete game shutout, as the Vikings swept Thursday\u2019s conference doubleheader against Mayville State.<\/p>\n

Lamontagne pitched a complete game shutout in 6 innings and allowed just three hits in the game as VCSU defeated Mayville by run rule, 8-0. She also pitched 4 innings in relief to pick up a win in game two by final score of 10-4.<\/p>\n

Valley City State improves to 25-14 overall this season and 12-4 in the NSAA. Mayville State drops to 8-21 overall and 5-9 in conference play.<\/p>\n

UP NEXT:<\/strong>\u00a0The VCSU Softball team travels to Waldorf for a 4-game conference series on Sunday and Monday. Mayville travels to Viterbo on Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

VCSU 8, Mayville 0 (6 innings)<\/u><\/strong>
\nJoelle Lamontagne<\/a>\u00a0allowed just three Comet hits and struck out three batters in her second complete game shutout of the season. She now holds a 15-6 record as VCSU\u2019s main starting pitcher. The Vikings posted a pair of runs four different innings, kicked off by a two-run blast by\u00a0Sierra Crocker<\/a>\u00a0in the bottom of the second.<\/p>\n

Marissa Hawkins<\/a>\u00a0added a two-run single in the third inning, and\u00a0Joelle Aiello<\/a>\u00a0later scored on a wild pitch in the fourth.\u00a0Riley Perryman<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Ashlynne Copinga<\/a>\u00a0each scored on an error by second baseman Taylor Stegman, and a sacrifice fly from Hawkins scored Aiello to finish the game by mercy rule.\"\"<\/p>\n

Anne-Elise Gest<\/a>\u00a0had two hits, and\u00a0Jessica Husband<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Andrea Rodriguez<\/a>\u00a0each doubled for the Vikings. Aiello and Perryman each scored two runs, and Hawkins drove in three.<\/p>\n

Payton Doerksen got the loss in the circle after allowing seven runs on eight hits. She walked two and struck out one in 5 innings of work. Sidney Fairbanks pitched 1\/3 of an inning in relief and gave up VCSU\u2019s final run. Ashlyn Tingey had two of Mayville\u2019s three hits in the game.<\/p>\n

VCSU 10, Mayville 4<\/u><\/strong>
\nValley City State scored five insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to secure a 10-4 victory in game two over Mayville Thursday.<\/p>\n

The Vikings scored a pair of runs in the first inning on a sac fly from\u00a0Jessica Husband<\/a>\u00a0and an RBI single from\u00a0Anne-Elise Gest<\/a>. Mayville tied the game in the second inning with a run on a fielder\u2019s choice by Erika Howell who later scored on a wild pitch. Mayville then took a 4-2 lead on a two-run single by Ashlyn Tingey in the third inning.<\/p>\n

It was all VCSU from there, starting with a solo home run by\u00a0Riley Perryman<\/a>\u00a0in the bottom of the third, and the Vikings took a 5-4 lead when two more runs came across on a dropped fly ball in the fifth inning.<\/p>\n

The Vikings added five more runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a three-run blast from\u00a0Marissa Hawkins<\/a>. A sacrifice fly from pinch hitter\u00a0Saige Forseth<\/a>\u00a0and an RBI single from\u00a0Ashlynne Copinga<\/a>\u00a0rounded out scoring in the game.<\/p>\n

Brooke Gaudry<\/a>\u00a0started in the circle and went 3 innings for the Vikings. She allowed four runs on seven hits and walked one batter. Lamontagne pitched 4 innings in relief, allowed just three hits and struck out two batters to get the win.<\/p>\n

Hawkins went 3-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and scored two runs for the Vikings. Gest and Perryman each went 2-for-3, and Perryman swiped the plate three times. Aiello, Husband,\u00a0Ashlyn Diemert<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mikayla Johnson<\/a>\u00a0each scored a run for VCSU.<\/p>\n

Mayville\u2019s Courtney Boll got the loss in the circle after allowing seven runs on eight hits. She walked two and struck out four. Annika Seedborg started the game for the Comets and allowed three runs on four hits, walked two and struck out two.<\/p>\n

Tingey went 2-for-4 with two RBIs for Mayville State. Bailey Larkin and Mackenzie Hughes each had two hits in the game, including a double apiece.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
