(UJ)<\/a> —\u00a0<\/strong>The University of Jamestown women’s hockey team faced a formidable challenge in its first-ever regular season game Saturday afternoon at Sidner Arena.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Jimmies’ opponent was the Midland University Warriors, who finished second in the ACHA Division 1 final rankings in 2021-22, and the Warriors lived up to that billing as they took a 10-1 victory in the season opener for both teams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Despite the loss, a number of firsts were achieved by UJ, including the first goal, scored by Crystal Wale<\/a> (JR\/Moose Jaw, SK), which also happened to be the first power play goal. Samantha Muller<\/a> (FR\/Saskatoon, SK) earned the first-ever assist, and Bethany Wielgosh<\/a> (FR\/Beausejour, MB) drew the first-ever penalty. Lilah Drew<\/a> (FR\/Bolton, ON) recorded the first-ever save by a Jimmie goaltender and joined Muller, Wale, Wielgosh, Samantha Beaulac, and Annika Braun<\/a> (FR\/Altona, MB) as the first-ever Jimmie starters. <\/p>\n\n\n\n With the first game under their belts, Jamestown will return to action Sunday and close out the weekend series at Midland.
