{"id":259409,"date":"2022-10-13T11:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-10-13T16:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=259409"},"modified":"2022-10-13T17:37:17","modified_gmt":"2022-10-13T22:37:17","slug":"swatting-calls-reported-to-north-dakota-school-thursday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=259409","title":{"rendered":"Swatting Calls Reported To North Dakota Schools"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Fargo  (KFGO) \u2013 Fargo Davies High, West Fargo High, and schools in several other cities across North Dakota received unverified threats, including threats of active shooters in the schools, Thursday morning.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fargo Police said dispatch received a call that there was an active shooter at Fargo Davies. They said they checked video footage at the school and did not find any evidence of a shooter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fargo Davies Principal Troy Cody said in an email to parents that the calls were quickly deemed to be hoaxes and there was no threat to the school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThese calls have been determined to be part of what is occurring around the nation, which is called \u2018swatting,&#8217;\u201d Cody said. \u201cSwatting is when someone reports a fake emergency to authorities. Swatting has been impacting school districts around the nation this school year.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cody said school safety is of the utmost importance and concern. He said a full investigation will be done to see if they can determine who made the calls. Fargo Davies is operating as a normal day today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Schools in Jamestown, Grand Forks, Bismarck, and Watford City also received the calls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jamestown Public School Superintendent Dr. Rob Lech said law enforcement was notified by phone of a \u201cpotential threat\u201d at the school, forcing the campus into immediate lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile the potential threat was not verified by law enforcement and there is no immediate threat, a systemic sweep is being conducted to ensure the safety and security of all students and staff,\u201d Dr. Lech stated. \u201cAfter consultation with law enforcement and out of an abundance of caution, all schools have currently been placed on lockdown.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Valley City Schools Superitendent, Josh Johnson states,  \u201cOver the past couple of weeks, and across the region in (South Dakota, Jamestown, Grand Forks, &amp; Bismarck), people are making \u201cfalse\u201d claims of school violence\/active shooters using the phone and social media.  We are closely following these situations in partnership with School Resource Officer (SRO) Sean Hagen and the Valley City Police Department.   Officer Hagen has provided his support for our school office staff and we are prepared to investigate any reports of school violence at Valley City Public Schools. He is also guiding staff members on how to handle these calls.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also Last month, similar \u2018swatting calls\u2019 were made to schools across Minnesota.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alexandria Police Chief Scott Kent said in late September that he believed the \u2018swatting\u2019 calls made to schools in Alexandria, Fergus Falls, and St. Paul came from a phone number IP address in Ethiopia.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe were able to capture the number that came in,\u201d Kent said. \u201cThere were multiple swatting calls across the state, but three of them were consistent with the same phone number. We were able to track that back to a phone number IP address in Ethiopia.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minneapolis, New Ulm, Fairmont, Rochester, Cloquet, Austin, Brainerd, Rosemount, Mankato, Grand Rapids, Bemidji, and International Falls also received swatting calls.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Officials said there was no danger to any students.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Fargo (KFGO) \u2013 Fargo Davies High, West Fargo High, and schools in several other cities across North Dakota received unverified threats, including threats of active shooters in the schools, Thursday morning.&nbsp; Fargo Police said dispatch received a call that there was an active shooter at Fargo Davies.
