(AP) \u2013 Google\u2019s attorneys say their long-running practice of electronically scanning the contents of people\u2019s Gmail accounts to help sell ads is legal, and are asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit that seeks to stop the practice.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 In court records filed in advance of a federal hearing scheduled for Thursday in San Jose, Google argues that \u201call users of email must necessarily expect that their emails will be subject to automated processing.\u201d<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The class action lawsuit, filed in May, says Google \u201cunlawfully opens up, reads, and acquires the content of people\u2019s private email messages\u201d in violation of California\u2019s privacy laws and federal wiretapping statutes.
