(AP) &#8211; North Dakota lawmakers are supporting big increases in some of the state&#8217;s highway speeding fines.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota has some of the region&#8217;s lowest fines for speeders.<br \/>\nThey&#8217;re also hard for law officers to calculate without using a chart.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Legislature&#8217;s Transportation Committee on Wednesday endorsed<br \/>\nraising the fines and making them easier to figure.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Now, someone who&#8217;s caught driving 65 mph on a 55 mph road is<br \/>\nfined $10. Under the new bill, the fine would be $50.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Someone going 80 mph on North Dakota&#8217;s interstate highways would<br \/>\nbe fined $50, instead of $25.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The bill would also allow cities to increase their speeding<br \/>\npenalties.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Fargo state Rep. Ed Gruchalla and assistant West Fargo police<br \/>\nchief Mike Reitan say the higher fines will be a deterrent to highway leadfoots.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>BISMARCK, N.D.
