FREMONT, Neb.-\u00a0(jimmiepride.com<\/strong><\/strong>) –\u00a0<\/strong>The eighth-ranked Jimmie men’s hockey team defeated No. 13 Illinois State University 7-1 Sunday afternoon to win the Midwest College Hockey conference championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Logan Berggren<\/a> had the Jimmies’ first and last goal, and in between five different players also lit the lamp for UJ.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After teaming with Reid Wilson<\/a> to set up Berggren, Andrew Clark<\/a> also assisted on Alek Erichuk’s power play goal at 12:16 to extend the lead to 2-0. Jordon Kromm<\/a> (from Justin Dumont<\/a> and Berggren) and Morgan Venne<\/a> (from Zane MacDonald<\/a>) scored five minutes apart in the second period to double UJ’s advantage. Venne’s goal came just 10 seconds after the Jimmies went on the power play following an ISU slashing penalty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Zane MacDonald<\/a> netted Jamestown’s fifth goal 67 seconds into the third, assisted by Jordan Baranesky<\/a> and Venne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

ISU got on the board at 4:20 of the third, but Wilson answered for the Jimmies at 11:33 on an assist by Mario DeCapite<\/a>. Clark and Erichuk got the helpers on Berggren’s second goal at 19:04, the third for UJ with the man advantage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shots were 54-17 in favor of Jamestown. Brandon Weare<\/a> made 16 saves in goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Greg Susinski<\/a> was named the MCH tournament’s Most Outstanding Player.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Jimmies will play a home-and-home series against Minot State, with UJ hosting on March 8 at 7 p.m. The ACHA D1 national tournament begins March 16 in Boston, Mass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
