Bismarck, N.D.\u00a0 (KCSi-T.V. News Sept 10, 2013) \u2013 Jasper Schneider, USDA Rural Development state director, announced Tuesday that eight recipients received $9.5 million in loans and $ 7.5 million in grants for water improvement projects across North Dakota.<\/p>\n
\u201cHaving access to a quality water supply is the foundation to any growing community,\u201d Schneider said. \u201cUSDA is proud to partner with these communities as they improve and build-out their water systems.\u201d<\/p>\n
The financing announced today is being delivered through USDA Rural Development\u2019s Water and Environmental Program. The projects aim at providing dependable water sources, eliminating health risks and offering adequate fire protection. The following list is a breakdown of the funding recipients.<\/p>\n
City of Hunter<\/span>: $487,000 loan and $348,000 grant. The funding will be used to remove and replace cast iron water pipes, fire hydrants and gate valves. The project will also include installing radio read water meters in all the homes in Hunter.\u00a0<\/p>\n City of Rolla<\/span>: $2,333,000 loan and $1,867,000 grant. The funding will replace water mains, install new fire hydrants, and update the city\u2019s water distribution system.<\/p>\n City of Lignite<\/span>: $762,000 loan and $669,200 grant. The funding will upgrade the current wastewater pond and collection system.<\/p>\n Stutsman Rural Water District<\/span>:<\/span> $1,575,000 loan. The funding will be used to install 270 miles of pipeline and will provide water to 281 new users located mainly in Stutsman County.<\/p>\n City of Hazelton<\/span>: $1.5 million loan and $1,177,600 grant. The funding will be used to remove and replace the existing water mains and water services.<\/p>\n Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians<\/span>: $1 million grant. The funding will be used expand water treatment and supply for the Turtle Mountain Rural Water System.\u00a0<\/p>\n City of Streeter<\/span>: $1,270,000 loan and $1,115,000 grant. The funding will be used to remove and replace all the city\u2019s water mains, gate valves, curb stops and water service lines.<\/p>\n City of Linton<\/span>: $1,665,000 loan and $1,335,000 grant. The funding will be used to replace existing cast iron water distribution mains throughout the city along with associated gate valves and fire hydrants.<\/p>\n Since 2010, USDA Rural Development in North Dakota has financed over $76 million to improve water and wastewater systems in more than 50 cities, tribal reservations or water districts.
