Des Moines, Iowa–\u00a0<\/strong>The Jimmie men’s volleyball team had its season come to an end with a loss to Grand View (Iowa) University in pool play at the NAIA National Championship on Wednesday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ninth-ranked Vikings swept UJ 25-16, 25-22, 25-23 to leave Jamestown’s record at 21-5, which ties the program record for wins in a season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UJ tied the score at 6-6 after a kill by Oguzhan Oguz<\/a> in the first set, but Grand View reeled off three straight points and six of the next seven to go in front 12-7. The lead would eventually grow to nine (21-12) before GVU won by the same margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Grand View maintained a comfortable lead through most of the second set, building an 18-12 cushion. The Jimmies won four in a row to get within two, only to have the Vikings come back with three of their own. UJ couldn’t quite close the gap, trailing 24-22 before Grand View took the final point for a 2-0 match lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With their season on the line, the Jimmies used a 6-2 run to turn a four-point deficit to a 22-22 tie and Grand View called a timeout. Out of the timeout, the Vikings took two in a row, forcing a UJ stoppage. A kill by Derek Correa<\/a> made it a one-point game, but Grand View clinched the match with a kill on the next play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Oguz had 10 kills to lead the offense, followed by Downey Huynh<\/a> with six. Correa passed out 24 assists and had six digs, while Adam Lopata<\/a> had a team-high nine digs. Tysen Myers<\/a> had a pair of blocks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
