SIOUX CENTER, Iowa– <\/strong>The Jimmie baseball team swept a pair of games against Dordt University on Tuesday, winning 5-4 in the opener and 4-3 in game two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamestown improves to 20-16 overall and 9-9 in the GPAC. The Jimmies are scheduled to play at Northwestern (Iowa) College on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game 1:<\/strong>
A two-run fifth inning ended up being the difference for UJ in a 5-4 win. After the Defenders hit a pair of solo home runs in the top of the fifth to take a 4-3 lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hayden Brown<\/a> was hit by a pitch to start the inning, and one out later pinch-runner Isaiah Roebuck<\/a> moved to third on a double by Ben Patton<\/a>. Chase Burke<\/a> flew out to right field, scoring Roebuck and advancing Patton to third. Troy Berg<\/a> reached on an error with Patton coming home on the play.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Brown had given UJ a 1-0 lead in the first with an RBI single. The lead grew to 3-0 as Jamestown scored twice more in the second inning. The Defenders answered with a pair of runs in the top of the third, cutting UJ’s lead to 3-2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the plate, Brown finished 2-for-2 and Patton went 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored. Connor Nipp<\/a> was credited with the win and Kendall Yackley<\/a> got the final out to record the save. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Game 2:<\/strong>
In the third one-run game of the series, Troy Berg<\/a> drove in Chase Burke<\/a> from second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, capping off a three-run comeback over the final two innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Burke drew a one-out walk and then stole second base, his second steal of the game. Berg’s single gave him his second hit and second RBI, with his first giving Jamestown a 1-0 lead in the third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dordt scored twice in the fifth to go in front 2-1, then added another in the sixth to make it 3-1.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jordan Singleton<\/a> tied the game with a one-out two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, the Defenders threatened to retake the lead, getting runners on first and second before Kendall Yackley<\/a> came on in relief. Yackley induced a ground ball that turned into a double play and the Jimmies worked out of the jam.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Six other UJ players had at least one hit, including a double by Triston Madison<\/a>.
