Sioux City, IA –\u00a0<\/strong>The Jimmie softball team finished its season with a pair of losses Wednesday at the GPAC postseason tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamestown lost 5-0 to Midland (Neb.) in the opening game, then fell 5-0 to Morningside (Iowa) in an elimination game. UJ finishes the season with an overall record of 24-22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Midland 5, UJ 0<\/strong>
The Jimmies were held to just three hits against the Warriors, two of them coming by Samarah Martinez<\/a>. Midland’s Aliyah Rincon struck out 16 batters and after a single by Martinez with two out in the third, did not allow another base hit until Ally Battistoni<\/a> singled to lead off the seventh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Midland led 1-0 after one, then tacked on a pair of runs in the second and added another in the third to go in front 4-0. The Warriors finished out the scoring with a single run in the fifth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunny Halsey<\/a> started in the circle and gave up four runs (two earned) on three hits in two innings before Hailey Schaefer<\/a> came on in relief for the final four innings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Morningside 5, UJ 0<\/strong>
Three unearned runs by the Mustangs in the bottom of the fourth put the Jimmies in a 4-0 hole, and Morningside finished with a 5-0 win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jamestown threatened in the top of the fifth as Gentrey Turin<\/a> led off with a double and Gracie Fisher<\/a> walked to put runners on first and second. However, the Jimmies were only able to get a runner as far as third base before the final out of the inning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the top of the sixth, Maddie Spaeth<\/a> singled to start the inning and moved to third on Mackenzie Lefebvre<\/a>‘s double. After back-to-back Jimmies struck out, Gentrey Turin<\/a> walked to load the bases, but Mustang reliever Bralen Biddlecome got Fisher to hit into a force play for the final out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spaeth and Turin both finished 2-for-2 at the plate. Hailey Schaefer<\/a> took the loss, giving up one earned run on four hits in three innings.
