Daryl Sommerdorf 65 Jamestown, passed away Saturday, September 9, 2023 at Eventide Jamestown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daryl was born August 29, 1958 in Rugby, ND to Carl and Emily Sommerdorf.\u00a0 Daryl had his grade school education in Minot, Towner and Garrison, ND.\u00a0 He graduated in 1976 from Jamestown High School.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daryl entered the Navy right out of school.\u00a0 He was serving on the USS Enterprise CVN65 aircraft carrier in the Pacific Ocean.\u00a0 His flight deck job was fireman.\u00a0 Off deck job was a barber.\u00a0 Daryl saw ports of call in Hawaii, Australia, Vietnam, Japan, Philippines, San Francisco and Bremerton, WA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On returning to North Dakota he worked at Anne Carlson School.\u00a0 Daryl married Victoria Vigil on July 8, 1983.\u00a0 They had three children.\u00a0 He worked second jobs at: Seekins Gas Station, M&H Gas Station, Ave Maria, all of Jamestown.\u00a0 Daryl worked 28 years at North Dakota State Hospital until a back injury disabled him.\u00a0 He worked two jobs at all times until 2003, to support his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daryl had two years of post-education at University of Jamestown.\u00a0 On October 15, 2004 he married Holly Hansen in Valley City, ND.\u00a0 He enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, reading and playing pool as able.\u00a0 In 2003 he moved to Jamestown to be closer to medical care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daryl is survived by his wife Holly; children Daryl Sommerdorf, Jr., Melissa Sommerdorf, Joshua Herman, all of Jamestown, ND; Bryan (Jennifer) Sommerdorf, Story City, IA, Ryan (Lynda) Herman, Niche, ND; grandchildren Mia, Juda, Emily, Kegan, Chase, Isabella, Victoria Sommerdorf, Story City, IA; step mother Dorothy Sommerdorf, Jamestown, ND; siblings Don (RaeAnn) Sommerdorf, Jeff Foster, Barbara Foster, Debra Anderson, all of Jamestown, ND; R.C. Foster, Phoenix, AZ; many nieces and nephews; mother-in-law Beverly (Cal) Patzner, Jamestown, ND.\u00a0 He was preceded in death by his parents and brother David.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Visitation will be one hour before the service at church.\u00a0 Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Thursday, September 14, 2023 at St. Paul\u2019s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Jennifer McDonald officiating.\u00a0 Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
