(AP Sept 25, 2013) &#8211; Bismarck State College president Larry Skogen has been named interim chancellor of the North Dakota University System.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The state Board of Higher Education voted Wednesday to hire Skogen, who has been serving as acting chancellor since the board bought out the contract of Hamid Shirvani.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Skogen and former state commerce commissioner Shane Goettle were finalists for the job.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Skogen is expected to take over by Nov. 1. The contract runs until June 2015, which would allow Skogen to serve through the 2015 legislative session.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 North Dakota residents will go to the polls in November 2014 to decide whether the state should dump the higher education board and chancellor and replace it with a three-member commission appointed by the governor.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The board held its monthly meeting Wednesday in Bismarck.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0FARGO, N.D.
