{"id":286084,"date":"2024-08-26T11:56:07","date_gmt":"2024-08-26T16:56:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=286084"},"modified":"2024-08-26T11:56:08","modified_gmt":"2024-08-26T16:56:08","slug":"offensive-onslaught-powers-fighting-hawks-past-alabama","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=286084","title":{"rendered":"Offensive onslaught powers Fighting Hawks past Alabama"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/UNDFightingHawks-Wsoccer.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"455\" height=\"300\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/UNDFightingHawks-Wsoccer.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-286085\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/UNDFightingHawks-Wsoccer.jpg 455w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/UNDFightingHawks-Wsoccer-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/08\/UNDFightingHawks-Wsoccer-265x175.jpg 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 455px) 100vw, 455px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>GRAND FORKS, N.D. \u2013<\/strong>&nbsp; It happened early, often and throughout the opening 45 minutes of action on Sunday afternoon from Bronson Field as the North Dakota soccer team blitzed Alabama State with six first-half goals on their way to a 7-0 victory and a second-straight win.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Fighting Hawks (2-0-2) found the scoreboard early in the contest as&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/julia-briggs\/12240\">Julia Briggs<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;connected with&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/kaylie-fowler\/12247\">Kaylie Fowler<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;who scored for the second time this season with a third-minute strike for a 1-0 UND lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>North Dakota pushed in two more goals over the next four minutes.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/milan-cordone\/12244\">Milan Cordone<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;scored off a corner opportunity in the fifth minute and then UND used a pair of head taps in the seventh minute to build a quick 3-0 advantage.&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/amelia-loeffler\/12251\">Amelia Loeffler<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;found the net with a header on a headed pass from&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/mary-gasaway\/12248\">Mary Gasaway<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;who delivered as a result of a second successful corner attempt from Cordone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the three early goals would have been more than enough for UND, the Fighting Hawks were just getting started and found the scoreboard again in the 23<sup>rd<\/sup>&nbsp;minute as&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/jessica-machovec\/12253\">Jessica Machovec<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;took advantage of a misplayed effort in the box by the Lady Hornets (1-2-0) and squeezed in a short attempt on a helper by&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/hunter-borgel\/12266\">Hunter Borgel<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;for a 4-0 UND lead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eleven minutes later,&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/caroline-kuhn\/12264\">Caroline Kuhn<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;scored her first goal of the season as ASU attempted to clear a UND free kick, but Kuhn delivered a low strike to the left corner to push the Fighting Hawks out front and in control at 5-0. The final first half tally involved Kuhn who fired an attempt that banged off the cross bar and led to&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/haley-wasilewski\/12271\">Haley Wasilewski<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;heading a helper to&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/charlie-basinet\/12265\">Charlie Basinet<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;who scored on yet another impressive sequence by the Fighting Hawks prior to the intermission.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a 6-0 lead, the 81<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;minute offered the final strike for the Fighting Hawks as&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/morgan-huff\/12268\">Morgan Huff<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;raced along the left side before delivering a soft assist to&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/paula-moreno-diaz\/12257\">Paula Moreno Diaz<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;who placed a laser on the top shelf for a fantastic finish to the scoring barrage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defensively, the Fighting Hawks allowed just five Alabama State shot attempts, three in the first half, with only two on goal for the contest. Goalkeeper&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/grace-miller\/12270\">Grace Miller<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;exited at 74&#8242; with a pair of saves and gave way to&nbsp;<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/fightinghawks.com\/sports\/womens-soccer\/roster\/sydney-bakritzes\/12238\">Sydney Bakritzes<\/a><\/dfn>&nbsp;who aided in the combined shutout over the final 16+ minutes of action.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NoDak hits the road for Chapel Hill, North Carolina where #5 UNC awaits on Thursday, August 29.
