News Oct 1. 2013) &#8212; With the federal government shut down, at midnight Tuesday, some workers at federal agencies in Jamestown are going to work today\u2026 to shut down operations.<\/p>\n<p>Those federal agencies providing services in Jamestown include the U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Geological Survey, Social Security Administration and Department of Veterans Affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The USDA Farm Service Agency in North Dakota, has closed, as each agency has its own shutdown procedures..<\/p>\n<p>At USGS\u2019s Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center in Jamestown, workers are furloughed without pay until a budget is in place.<\/p>\n<p>During the furlough, one person remains on staff to maintain buildings and watch over the facility.<\/p>\n<p>Medical services to veterans are not impacted, and all VA medical facilities and clinics in the nation remain operational.<\/p>\n<p>The VA is suspending appeals of claims and outreach and public awareness activities through the duration of the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>The Social Security Administration local offices, including in Jamestown, remain open with limited services.<\/p>\n<p>Still available is applying for benefits, make address changes or change other vital information.<\/p>\n<p>Not available is applying for a new or replacement Social Security or Medicare card.<\/p>\n<p>Officials say Social Security payments should not be affected.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota National Guard officials say about 430 of its employees will likely be told to go home because of the government shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>Adjutant general Maj. Gen. David Sprynczynatyk (sprihn-suh-NAT&#8217;-ihk) says he plans to meet with Guard workers this morning to talk about staffing.<\/p>\n<p>The Guard has about 1,150 full-time employees who are paid by the federal government.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. Attorney Timothy Purdon says the shutdown forces his department to operate with about half of its 43 full-time employees. He says there could be &#8220;real consequences&#8221; from the budget battle.<\/p>\n<p>State Budget Director Pam Sharp says that some departments that receive federal funding, like Department of Transportation and Job Service, should be able to function normally if the shutdown doesn&#8217;t last.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V.
