{"id":286839,"date":"2024-09-16T08:43:41","date_gmt":"2024-09-16T13:43:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=286839"},"modified":"2024-09-16T08:43:42","modified_gmt":"2024-09-16T13:43:42","slug":"jimmies-split-sunday-doubleheader-at-mayville-state","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=286839","title":{"rendered":"Jimmies split Sunday doubleheader at Mayville State"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>MAYVILLE, N.D.<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2013The University of Jamestown baseball team opened its fall schedule with a doubleheader Sunday afternoon against Mayville State University, splitting with the Comets after winning game one 6-1 and dropping game two 7-5.<br><br><strong>THE BASICS<\/strong><br><strong>SCORE:&nbsp;<\/strong>Jamestown 6, Mayville State 1; Mayville State 7, Jamestown 5<br><strong>LOCATION:<\/strong>&nbsp;Scott Berry Field, Mayville, N.D.<br><strong>RECORDS:<\/strong>&nbsp;Jamestown 1-1, Mayville State 1-1<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME ONE: JAMESTOWN 6, MAYVILLE STATE 1<\/strong><br>\u2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/burke_chase_3y43\">Chase Burke<\/a>&nbsp;put the Jimmies on the board in the top of the third with a single to right center field to score&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/swennumson_ben_bla8\">Ben Swennumson<\/a>. The Comets responded with a single run in the bottom of the third to tie the game.<br>\u2022 Jamestown retook the lead in the top of the fourth.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/muizelaar_ryan_axp9\">Ryan Muizelaar<\/a>&nbsp;led off the inning with a double and moved to third on a wild pitch, then came home on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/goforth_trever_yb8x\">Trever Goforth<\/a>&#8216;s groundout to make it 2-1.<br>\u2022 UJ added four insurance runs in the top of the seventh. With runners at first and second, Burke doubled to left, scoring Swennumson.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/alva_alex_l3dm\">Alex Alva<\/a>&nbsp;followed with a single to center field that brought in Burke and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/steele_sy_p7c4\">Sy Steele<\/a>. One out later, Alva stole third, and a wild throw by MSU catcher Riley Rankin allowed Alva to come home.<br>\u2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/liestman_avery_e4w8\">Avery Liestman<\/a>&nbsp;pitched a gem for the Jimmies, scattering six hits and giving up only one earned run while striking out five in seven complete innings.<br>\u2022 Burke, Alva, and Muizelaar each finished 2-for-4 in game one at the plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>GAME TWO: MAYVILLE STATE 7, JAMESTOWN 5<\/strong><br>\u2022 The Comets got to Jimmie starter&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/zimmer_luke_swwx\">Luke Zimmer<\/a>&nbsp;for three runs in the first to take a 3-0 lead.<br>\u2022 UJ managed to cut into the lead with a two-run second inning, with runs scoring on a sacrifice fly by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/neva_keegan_ebgp\">Keegan Neva<\/a>&nbsp;and a steal of home by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/muizelaar_ryan_axp9\">Ryan Muizelaar<\/a>.<br>&nbsp;\u2022 MSU answered with a single run in the bottom of the second and tacked on two more in the fifth to increase their lead to 6-2.<br>\u2022 With one out in the top of the sixth, singles by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/patton_ben_81yy\">Ben Patton<\/a>, Neva, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/bachman_will_sucb\">Will Bachman<\/a>&nbsp;drove in runs to help the Jimmies cut the deficit to 6-5. The Comets got one run back in the bottom of the sixth and retired Jamestown in order in the seventh to take the victory.<br>\u2022 Zimmer was charged with the loss, allowing four hits and four runs (three earned) with four&nbsp; strikeouts in his three innings of work.<br>\u2022&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jimmiepride.com\/sports\/bsb\/2024-25\/bios\/burke_chase_3y43\">Chase Burke<\/a>&nbsp;(2-for-3) and Patton (2-for-3) had multi-hit games for the Jimmies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>FOR THE FOES<\/strong><br>\u2022 Carson Lundmark was 3-for-3 and drove in three runs in game two for MSU.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>UP NEXT<\/strong><br>\u2022 Jamestown hosts Mayville State on Wednesday, September 18 in a single nine-inning game.
