Jamestown<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Avery Liestman<\/a>\u00a0allowed just one run in seven innings and the University of Jamestown baseball team improved to 3-1 this fall with a 6-3 victory over Mayville State University Wednesday afternoon at Jack Brown Stadium.

HOW IT HAPPENED
<\/strong>\u2022 The Jimmies used small ball to push across their first run in the bottom of the first. After Chase Burke<\/a> and Alex Alva<\/a> led off the inning with back-to-back singles, Triston Madison<\/a> put down a sacrifice bunt. Comet pitcher Garret Lundmark fielded the bunt but his throw to first was off line, allowing Burke to score from second.
\u2022 Jamestown added to their lead with a pair of runs in the third. Madison led off the inning with a walk and was replaced by courtesy runner Dallas Cummins<\/a>. With Jordan Singleton<\/a> up to bat, Cummins stole second, then a wild pitch by Mayville State’s Jack Cummins went all the way to the backstop and Cummins came around to score. Singleton drew a walk and later came home on Julian Romero<\/a>‘s two-out single.
\u2022 The Comets got on the board with a single run in the seventh, cutting UJ’s lead to 3-1.
\u2022 Cummins delivered a single to right that got by Chris Shopbell for a two-base error. Ryan Muizelaar<\/a> and Riki Okamoto<\/a> scored to make it 5-1, then Romero drove in Cummins with a sacrifice fly one batter later for a 6-1 lead.  
\u2022 The Comets made things interesting in the top of the ninth as Carson Lundmark and Riley Rankin hit solo home runs to get Mayville State within 6-3. Payton Hochhalter<\/a> came on to get the last out and record his first save.
\u2022 Liestman improved to 2-0 as he pitched seven innings, striking out six and walking just one.
\u2022 Burke (2-for-4) and Alva (2-for-5) had multi-hit games for the Jimmies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

FOR THE FOES<\/strong>
