{"id":287802,"date":"2024-10-21T09:14:00","date_gmt":"2024-10-21T14:14:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=287802"},"modified":"2024-10-21T10:24:52","modified_gmt":"2024-10-21T15:24:52","slug":"game-recap-wild-3-columbus-blue-jackets-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=287802","title":{"rendered":"Game Recap: Wild 3, Columbus Blue Jackets 1"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Columbus &#8211;<\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/kirill-kaprizov-8478864\">Kirill Kaprizov<\/a>\u00a0had a goal and an assist in the third period for the Minnesota Wild in a 3-1 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena on Saturday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/marco-rossi-8482079\">Marco Rossi<\/a>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/mats-zuccarello-8475692\">Mats Zuccarello<\/a>&nbsp;also scored, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/filip-gustavsson-8479406\">Filip Gustavsson<\/a>&nbsp;made 23 saves for the Wild (3-0-2), who extended their season-opening point streak to give games.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Wild became the fifth team in NHL history to not trail in regulation through each of their first five games in a season. Minnesota joined the 1969-70 Boston Bruins (seven games), the 2015-16 Montreal Canadiens, the 1990-91 Bruins (five) and the 1930-31 Maple Leafs (five).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt&#8217;s just because we&#8217;ve outworked the teams we&#8217;ve played so far,\u201d Gustavsson said. \u201cI think as a team, we&#8217;ve played some really good defensive hockey. We trust each other back there and everyone is doing their part of the job. It&#8217;s made me comfortable.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/yegor-chinakhov-8482475\">Yegor Chinakhov<\/a>&nbsp;scored, and&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/daniil-tarasov-8476549\">Daniil Tarasov<\/a>&nbsp;made 32 saves for the Blue Jackets (2-3-0).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t start on time,\u201d Blue Jackets defenseman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/zach-werenski-8478460\">Zach Werenski<\/a>&nbsp;said. \u201cIf it wasn\u2019t for (Tarasov), it could have been as lot worse in the first period. We have to give a better effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe have a standard now of how we have to play. We\u2019ve done that for four games and tonight we weren\u2019t there. We\u2019re going to learn from it and we\u2019re going to move on. We\u2019re not going to let it happen again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rossi gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 12:40 of the first period with a wrist shot from between the circles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Blue Jackets failed to score during a four-minute power play in the second period after&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/yakov-trenin-8478508\">Yakov Trenin<\/a>&nbsp;was called for a high-sticking double minor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re a good squad, but we\u2019re looking at ourselves here,\u201d Blue Jackets forward&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/adam-fantilli-8484166\">Adam Fantilli<\/a>&nbsp;said. \u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter who we\u2019re playing, we should be able to score on a four-minute power play.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Columbus had four shots on goal during the four-minute man-advantage and went 0-for-3 on the night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re being junkyard dogs,\u201d Wild defenseman&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/jake-middleton-8478136\">Jake Middleton<\/a>&nbsp;said. \u201cThat\u2019s our mentality we\u2019ve got going into our meetings and the kills right now and so far, so good.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kaprizov made it 2-0 at 2:52 of the third period just six seconds into a 5-on-3 power play.&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/brock-faber-8482122\">Brock Faber<\/a>&nbsp;controlled the puck at the top of the offensive zone and found Kaprizov for a one-timer from the bottom of the right circle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI liked the first period a lot. That was the identity we want to play with,\u201d Wild coach John Hynes said. \u201cWe got away from our game at the end of the second but I really liked how we came out in the third, the mindset we played with. We regathered ourselves, played the game the right way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zuccarello made it 3-0 at 8:26, lifting a backhand over Tarasov\u2019s right pad as he drove to the net.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chinakhov cut it to 3-1 at 18:35 with a wrist shot from the right circle to push his point streak to five games (three goals, four assists).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf we&#8217;re not ready to play, it&#8217;s on me, it&#8217;s on the coaches, it&#8217;s on the players,\u201d Blue Jackets coach Dean Evason said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTES:<\/strong>&nbsp;Minnesota is on an 11-game point streak (9-0-2) against Columbus. \u2026 With his goal, Rossi extended his point streak to four games (two goals, three assists), tying his NHL best set Nov. 12-24, 2023 (one goal, three assists). \u2026 Wild forward&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/ryan-hartman-8477451\">Ryan Hartman<\/a>&nbsp;(upper body) did not play. He skated in the morning and was considered a game-time decision by Hines. Forward&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/marcus-johansson-8475149\">Marcus Johansson<\/a>&nbsp;(lower body) returned from missing one game and was minus-1 in 13:18 of ice time. \u2026 Wild forward&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhl.com\/player\/joel-eriksson-ek-8478493\">Joel Eriksson Ek<\/a>&nbsp;played with a full-face shield after missing two games because of a broken nose.
