(Valley News Live) Jamestown – Wednesday, the University of Jamestown held a prayer service to remind people \u201cthey\u2019re in this together.\u201d Their cafeteria, Knight Hall, was destroyed by a fire over the weekend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Around 1:30 Sunday morning, a student who is also a part-time Domino\u2019s worker spotted the fire at Knight Hall and made that initial 911 call.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTwo minutes later, I had a picture on my phone of flames coming out the northwest corner of Knight Hall,\u201d Dr. Polly Peterson, the president at the university said during an assembly Wednesday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reagan Johnson, a junior, said, \u201cWe were kind of just like shocked. We didn\u2019t know what was happening.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Peterson was also in shock. She described the fire as \u201cdevastating but under control.\u201d While crews battled the blaze, the question stood as to how the students were going to be fed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe National Sodexo Office was here. We had a great meeting. We have a plan to set up in the Hansen Center. We\u2019re calling this a \u2018Crawl, Walk, Run,\u2019\u201d added Peterson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A team running to the rescue. Peterson said she\u2019s had more than 300 messages from people wanting to donate kitchen equipment and money.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI know it\u2019s not going to be perfect, So that\u2019s where it will be until the end of the semester. It\u2019s the least used place on campus so we felt it displaced the least amount of people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While Wednesday was a moment of prayer, it was also a moment of praise for the first responders who risked their lives Sunday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cComing together to like recognize the people that stopped the fire of where we go for our community. It\u2019s great to recognize them and just say \u2018Thanks,\u2019\u201d said Senior Megan Oswald.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While a tragedy, students have a new cafeteria and chapel to look forward to.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI\u2019m excited to see how it is. I was excited about the new chapel. I think it will just be really neat. It was all in God\u2019s plan,\u201d added Johnson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
