She believed in always putting on her face before greeting the world, and it was rare to catch her without perfectly done hair and a spritz (or three) of her signature perfume.

Pat lived a life full of deep passions and strong convictions. Her relationships could be rocky—she loved deeply but didn’t always love gently. She had high standards, and she wasn’t one to shy away from distance when boundaries were tested. But time, growth, and effort had a way of bringing people back into her heart—often stronger and closer than before. She taught those around her that relationships are rarely simple, but they are worth the work when the love runs deep. Her granddaughter described her as “the best grandma in the world… until she wasn’t,” and that kind of love—that held high expectations and hard boundaries—shaped the people around her in powerful ways.

She found peace and partnership later in life with Cal, a kind and calming man who adored her. They married in 1980 in Pierre, SD before moving to Alaska. Together, they created a home in the tundra, where she stayed until her mind and body no longer allowed it—though she surely would have defended that land like Custer’s Last Stand if she could’ve. Pat embraced the Alaskan lifestyle – she spent her time camping, fishing, gardening, and working on various cabins, all of which brought her great joy.

She is survived by her beloved stepson, Randy (Hannah) Miller, who lovingly cared for her since the passing of her husband, Calvin, in 2014. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Andrew Miller, Billie St. Martin, Ben Ediger, Melissa Morford, and Zachary Morford, along with four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her late husband Calvin, her children Rodney Morford and Carol Leeann “Polly” Ediger, as well as her parents and siblings.

Pat wasn’t always easy, but she was always something. She gave legendary Christmas gifts, made people laugh (or grit their teeth), and left behind stories no one will forget. She loved hard, fought harder, and lived exactly as she pleased. And somehow, despite it all—or maybe because of it—she will be fiercely missed.

Graveside Service- 2:30 PM Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the Gackle Cemetery, Gackle, ND.

Patricia Patsy Jean Miller, age 92, of Ninilchik, AK passed away on April 6 in Jamestown, ND leaving behind a legacy that was nothing if not unforgettable.
