The DAISY Award\u00a0is an internationally recognized program that honors the compassionate care and clinical skill of nurses \u2014 values that align perfectly with JRMC\u2019s commitment to excellence in patient care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Owens, a registered nurse in JRMC\u2019s patient care unit, was selected for her deep empathy, emotional presence and unwavering commitment to patient well-being. Her nominations captured heartfelt accounts that demonstrated how her dedication made a lasting, personal impact on patients and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his nomination, Michael Kruk, who has since passed, reflected on Owens\u2019 thoughtfulness during the holiday season. Knowing how much Christmas meant to him, she purchased and decorated a Christmas tree for his hospital room. \u201cIt is a constant reminder of how much she cares and goes above and beyond her job,\u201d Kruk wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In her daily role, Owens administers medications, monitors vital signs, performs health assessments and collaborates with care teams to provide comprehensive support to patients. But it\u2019s her emotional intelligence and compassion that truly set her apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhile I was receiving care at the hospital, I was feeling incredibly down, overwhelmed with emotions, worries and fear,\u201d nominator David Wolhart wrote. \u201cWhat stood out the most was how Heather made me feel seen, heard and important \u2014 even at a time when my self-esteem was at its lowest.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Owens exemplifies the standard of care that JRMC employees strive to carry out with every interaction.
