The award, established by JRMC\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/jrmcnd.com\/specialties\/gynecology-obstetrics\/\">OB-GYN department<\/a>, recognizes women in the community who exemplify courage, outstanding accomplishments and noble qualities that inspire others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carmack was nominated by colleague Kristi Lloyd, who praised her impact on local youth. \u201cMelissa has created a warm, welcoming space at each elementary library that makes students want to be there,\u201d Lloyd wrote in her nomination. \u201cStudents love the library and Melissa so much that there are students who ask to go there&nbsp;<em>before<\/em>&nbsp;school to visit with her and read books.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the Jamestown Public School District library assistant, Carmack serves every public elementary school in Jamestown, building a consistent culture of curiosity and joy around reading. Her recent recognition coincided with a milestone moment: the end-of-year school assembly where her daughter graduated from fifth grade \u2014 and where Carmack officially stepped into her new role as elementary schools library coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Carmack humbly and passionately sees her work as a way to empower young minds. \u201cIt\u2019s incredible to see students achieve,\u201d she said. \u201cLibraries are no longer the quiet study spaces they used to be. They\u2019re noisy, full of chatter and laughter. I\u2019m proud to help foster that love for books and learning.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Lloyd emphasized Carmack\u2019s dedication to cultivating connections with students. \u201cHer passion for creating a genuine, positive relationship with students is awe-inspiring,\u201d&nbsp;Lloyd said. \u201cMelissa takes the time to get to know each child\u2019s interests to give them thoughtful suggestions on books.\u201d That commitment extends beyond school resources \u2014 Carmack has even lent books from her personal collection to help students stay in their reading \u201cgroove\u201d without interruption.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SHERO Award is a testament to women whose extraordinary achievements and character uplift others and enrich the entire community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had an exceptional group of nominees this year,\u201d said JRMC nurse practitioner&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/jrmcnd.com\/find-a-provider\/makenize-breitbach-dnp-c\/\">Makenzie Breitbach<\/a>. \u201cMelissa stood out for her unwavering commitment to education and her profound impact on children across our district.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown (JRMC) &#8211; Jamestown Regional Medical Center (JRMC) named Melissa Carmack as the 2025 SHERO Award recipient.
