VALLEY CITY, N.D. (Valley News Live) – A 19-year-old was arrested after reportedly fleeing police in Valley City, with police allegedly finding alcohol in the vehicle after they caught up to the suspect.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Court Documents, a Valley City Police Officer attempted to pull over a vehicle in the early morning hours of June 14 after seeing the driver move around a \u201croad closed\u201d barrier at the intersection of 2nd Street and Central Avenue North. The driver reportedly continued down Central Avenue, which had been closed for the \u201cRally in the Valley\u201d event, as the officer attempted to make the traffic stop. The documents say the driver navigated around another barrier and appeared to speed up. The officer says the vehicle was driving about 55 miles an hour in a 25 mile an hour zone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The driver, later identified as 19-year-old Shaunn Wieser, attempted to turn west onto 6th Street NW, but couldn\u2019t make the turn due to the high rate of speed, so he continued to travel north in the southbound lanes before correcting over. He then reportedly turned onto 7th Street NW and continued to travel at a high rate of speed. Police say he then turned off his headlights and taillights before running a stop sign at 5th Avenue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Court documents say that Wieser drove into a dead end street and hit a curb in his attempt to turn around. The officer says he noted that the vehicle had a flat tire on the front drivers side. He also was able to get the plate of the vehicle. Since he already had the plate and due to the driver\u2019s reckless behavior on residential streets, the officer terminated the pursuit but continued to track the vehicle\u2019s location. He says Wieser attempted another turn and crashed over a curb and into a yard before getting back on the road and speeding away again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Police say Wieser almost hit another vehicle, he eventually turned into an alley in the 600 block of 2nd Street NW, which is where the vehicle came to a stop. Police say they saw Wieser get out of the vehicle and run away from the scene. Court documents say that he ran through and up to the back door of a house, but couldn\u2019t get the door open. As police told him to get on the ground, Wieser reportedly went to sit on an outdoor sofa. Officers grabbed him and took him to the ground before putting him in cuffs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officers detected a strong odor of alcohol from Wieser, according to the court documents, along with slurred speech. When police asked how much he had to drink he said \u201cnone\u201d and then added that he was \u201cjust trying to get to my mom\u2019s house but I don\u2019t know why I can\u2019t go down Central.\u201d As another officer arrived on scene and took note of the odor of alcohol, Wieser reportedly started to cry and said \u201cI didn\u2019t mean to.\u2019 He was then arrested for fleeing a peace officer and refusal to hault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An Alco-Senser Test was performed, which produced a .173 BrAC and was told that he\u2019d also be charged for a DUI. A search of the vehicle uncovered a can of \u201cOld Milwaukee\u201d under the driver\u2019s seat, and an open bottle of \u201cRussian Standard Vodka\u201d was also found in the vehicle later. A case of old Milwaukee with cans removed from it and a bottle of \u201cKarkov\u201d vodka were also found in the bed of the vehicle. Another search later uncovered a metal water bottle that an officer believed to be lemonade mixed with an alcoholic beverage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
