PD \u2013 The Valley City Police Department is notifying residents about a high-risk sex offender who has recently moved to Valley City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

62 years of age, Daniel Mark Shern, lives at 649 3rd<\/sup> St NE, Valley City, ND 58072.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shern is a white male, 6 feet tall, weighing 190 pounds, and has Hazel eyes and Gray hair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shern drives a 2014 white Ford 284EEP<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Shern has been assigned a High risk assessment by the North Dakota risk level committee, Office of the Attorney General.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offense:<\/strong> Possession of child pornography; other state. After child pornography was discovered in Shern’s vehicle, Moorhead Police got a search warrant for Shern’s computer and a search revealed over 5,000 additional images of child pornography. This was prosecuted in U.S. District Court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conviction Date<\/strong>: 1\/11\/2007 U.S. Federal Court, MN<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disposition:<\/strong>\u00a0120 months; lifetime supervised release<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offense:<\/strong> Possession of child pornography; other state. Shern was pulled over by officers investigation a drunk driving report. While conducting an inventory of search of his vehicle, the officers discovered numerous photographs of naked girls aged 6-9 engaged in various sexual acts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Conviction Date: <\/strong>12\/6\/2005 Becker District Count, MN<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disposition:<\/strong> 15 months stayed; 10 years probation; 6 months conditional confinement<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Offense:<\/strong> Criminal Sexual Conduct -2nd Degree; other state. While he was babysitting for his girlfriend, Shern had a 7-year-old girl touch and stroke his penis. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Convicition Date:<\/strong> 2\/28\/1994 Pennington District Court, MN<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Disposition:<\/strong> 25 years supervised probation; 560 hours community service<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Police emphasize that Shern is not currently wanted and has served his court-imposed sentence. The notification aims to ensure public safety and is not intended to incite fear or vigilantism. Residents are warned that harassment, intimidation, or threats against Shern, his family, landlords, or employers will result in prosecution<\/p>\n\n\n\n
