Jamestown JRMC – The lake was quiet that winter morning, sunlight glinting off the ice as Howard (\u201cHowie\u201d) Haupt dropped a line into the cold water. Beside him sat his JRMC\u00a0Hospice<\/a>\u00a0social worker, Karolee, who had brought her family along to share the day. Between casts, Howie told stories that blended with the gentle rhythm of fishing and laughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later, she surprised him with a photo book from that day \u2014 each page a memory, a moment of joy preserved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt made his year,\u201d says his daughter, Bonnie. \u201cHe was a storyteller, and that fishing trip gave him one last great story to tell.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

For two years, JRMC Hospice cared for Howie \u2014 visiting weekly, and eventually daily, ensuring he had the equipment, medicine and support he needed. But more than that, they gave him time, dignity and connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey were very intentional every time they visited,\u201d says Bonnie. \u201cIt always felt like they had all the time in the world.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Hospice, she explained, isn\u2019t just for the final days. \u201cIt\u2019s important that people know you don\u2019t have to be at the very end stages of life to benefit from hospice.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Howie, it meant staying home \u2014 exactly where he wanted to be. \u201cEverything turned out just how we hoped,\u201d Bonnie says. \u201cHe was able to stay home, just like he wanted.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a former JRMC nurse, Bonnie knew she wanted her father\u2019s care to come from the team she trusted most. \u201cIt\u2019s important to support our local healthcare services. JRMC truly cares about this community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 years of hospice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

 <\/strong>Since 1995, JRMC Hospice has stood beside families like the Haupts \u2014 offering not only medical care, but compassion, understanding and presence. For 30 years, they have helped families celebrate life\u2019s final season with peace and purpose. Each visit, each conversation, each shared story becomes part of a greater legacy \u2014 one that reminds us that love does not end when life does.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This anniversary marks more than time passed; it honors the lives, like Howie\u2019s, that have shaped what JRMC Hospice is today \u2014 a reflection of kindness, courage and community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
