{"id":297886,"date":"2026-01-26T09:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T15:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=297886"},"modified":"2026-01-26T16:53:04","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T22:53:04","slug":"family-remembers-16-year-old-son-killed-by-semi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=297886","title":{"rendered":"Family Remembers 16-Year-Old Son Killed by Semi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"alignleft size-full\"><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/stilesfamily.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/01\/stilesfamily.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-297887\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Jamestown ND (Valley News Live) &#8211; Days after their 16-year-old son was fatally struck by a semi, a Jamestown family is speaking out to remember him, while calling for safety changes at what they describe as a dangerous intersection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On January 21, 2026, Jake Stiles was crossing 4th Avenue when he was hit by a semi just yards away from his home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stiles\u2019 family says he was walking from Dollar General to get a coke, a favorite treat he enjoyed almost daily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI heard my wife scream. I mean, I knew automatically, it was Jake,\u201d his father, Charles, said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two went outside after the accident and saw the aftermath.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anna Stiles, Jake\u2019s mother, explained, \u201cI could see a body there. It was under a tarp, and it just hit. Five minutes later, a police officer came in and asked for identification on my son.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jake was pronounced dead at the scene. The 36-year-old driver of the semi was not injured, according to North Dakota Highway Patrol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Following his death, the Stiles family is calling for pedestrian safety improvements at the intersection where Jake was killed. They said the busy area has been the site of several dangerous accidents over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThere was a little girl who had gotten hit there years ago,\u201d the family said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re pushing for signage or lights to be installed in honor of their son\u2019s death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt shouldn\u2019t have been a life taken for them to understand that something needs to be done,\u201d his mom said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Jake leaves behind four siblings and a large extended family who remember his humor and love for others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His family said Jake had a passion for video games, building gadgets, and spending time with his friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHe taught us how to be people who needed people, and how to help people,\u201d Anna added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A funeral mass is planned for next Wednesday, January 28, at St. James Basilica Church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A specific time has yet to be set, but the family confirms the service will be held after school hours so classmates can attend.
