Jamestown, (CSi) \u2013\u00a0 The Jamestown Rural Fire Department\u00a0was called\u00a0to a shop fire in rural southeast Jamestown about 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, two miles east of Hillcrest Golf Course.<\/p>\n

The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office reports a shop on the propery was fully engulfed in flames when the units arrived.<\/p>\n

Authorities say no one was home when the fire started.<\/p>\n

The North Dakota Highway Patrol was also at the scene.<\/p>\n

Jamestown (CSi) \u2014 The North Dakota Highway Patrol reported a rollover accident that occurred just after 9-a.m., Wednesday on I-94, at mile marker 240 between Cleveland and Windsor.<\/p>\n

33 year old Katey Richter-Kappenman of Bismarck was operating a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer westbound at approximately 75 miles per hour on frost-covered roads. The driver crossed an overpass and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the median, rolled and continued sliding across both eastbound lanes, coming to rest in the south ditch.<\/p>\n

She was not injured and was wearing a seatbelt.<\/p>\n

Her passengers a three year old boy, and two year old girl also of Bismarck were not injured. The children were secured in car seats.<\/p>\n

The frost-covered roads were a factor in two additional property crashes\u00a0Wednesday morning on I-94, including a reported rollover accident that occurred just after 9-a.m.,\u00a0 on I-94 at mile marker 270.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Drivers are encouraged to continue to buckle up, slow down and remove cruise control as the winter driving season begins.<\/p>\n

JAMESTOWN (AP, CSi) – Jamestown’s police chief says authorities plan terrorizing charges against a student who allegedly made threats that led to a brief lockdown of the University of Jamestown campus last week.<\/p>\n

Chief Scott Edinger says the student is being evaluated at the state mental hospital. No charges will be filed until that is complete.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old student from California allegedly threatened to kill three students and drink their blood as part of a satanic ritual. The alleged threats last Thursday led to a half-hour lockdown of the campus while authorities searched for the student.<\/p>\n

The student’s father tells The Jamestown Sun that his son was just joking around, and that his son has been expelled over the misunderstanding.<\/p>\n

While in Jamestown, Ronald Flores has been in contact with Jamestown police and UJ officials.<\/p>\n

The school won’t confirm that because of privacy rules.<\/p>\n

The Flores\u2019 are from Thousand Oaks, Calif., an outer suburb of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

Ronald Flores said Tuesday, “We just kid around. It\u2019s like a punk thing. It\u2019s like a goth thing. It\u2019s just a thing in Los Angeles.”<\/p>\n

Valley City, ND (CSi) — Valley City police reports, a second suspect has been arrested in connection with one of several late September Valley City church burglaries.<\/p>\n

25 year old Andrew Miklas of Valley City was detained near Hillsboro on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

Miklas is being held at Cass County Jail, charged with criminal conspiracy to commit burglary in Barnes County and possession of stolen property in Traill County. All charges are Class C felonies.<\/p>\n

Miklas will be sent to Traill County first, then to Barnes County.<\/p>\n

Miklas\u2019 original arrest warrant from Valley City police was for charges of burglary, which is a felony, and theft of property, a misdemeanor.<\/p>\n

Valley City police issued arrest warrants October 30th, for Miklas and 18 year old Nicole Lindermann, of Kathryn, in connection with a burglary at Faith Lutheran Church, in Valley City.<\/p>\n

Lindermann turned herself in October 30, 2013 and was released from the Barnes County Jail on a $4,000 unsecured appearance bond.<\/p>\n

Miklas and Linderman were arrested Thursday night, after Hillsboro Police received a call about two suspicious people staying at the Hillsboro Inn. The vehicle the people had arrived in was stolen out of Hannaford and matched the description of a vehicle used in a burglary in Aneta.<\/p>\n

A second vehicle was found stolen out of Casselton.<\/p>\n

Miklas and Lindermann were arrested for possession of stolen property, resisting arrest and outstanding warrants for burglary.<\/p>\n

Lindermann is being held in the Cass County Jail, charged with possession of a stolen vehicle.<\/p>\n

Miklas is being held at the Cass County Jail on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit burglary in Barnes County and possession of stolen property in Traill County, Class C felonies,<\/p>\n

A series of church burglaries happened during the weekend of September 28 and 29 this year. Trinity Lutheran Church, Our Savior\u2019s Lutheran Church and the Congregational Church of Christ were burglarized that weekend, along with Faith Lutheran. The Valley City Public Library was also burglarized that weekend.<\/p>\n

Valley City police have said the church burglaries appear to be related, based on observations at the scenes.<\/p>\n

It is unclear if the church burglaries are related to an arson fire at Faith Lutheran Church Oct. 21. The fire caused about $2.2 million in damage and is under investigation by Valley City police and state and federal investigators.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\"windmill\"<\/a>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s Public Service Commission has approved a $350 million, 200 megawatt wind farm in the southeastern part of the state.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The PSC approved Geronimo Energy’s Courtenay Wind Farm on Wednesday.\u00a0 The commission’s action came after the company agreed to delete nine of the proposed 136 turbines from its plan after safety concerns were brought up by owners of a nearby crop-spraying business, at \u00a0public hearing on the project\u00a0 July 12 in Jamestown.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The crop sprayers worried that the turbines were too close to their private runway in Stutsman County.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The entire project covers about 21,000 acres, or about 33 square miles. Developers hope to begin construction later this year, with completion done by late 2014.

\u00a0NOONAN, N.D. (AP) – Two people have died in the collision of a pickup truck and a delivery truck in northwestern North Dakota.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The Highway Patrol did not immediately identify the victims of the crash on state Highway 5 about 3 miles west of Noonan. It happened shortly after 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Authorities say the pickup crossed the center line and struck the delivery truck head on. Both drivers died at the scene.<\/p>\n

\u00a0BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – North Dakota’s capital will host the first public hearing of a task force to examine the impact of exposure to violence on American Indian and Alaska Native children.
\n\u00a0
\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The task force is anchored by a federal working group that includes U.S. attorneys and federal officials, and an advisory committee of experts. They will examine the scope and impact of violence facing American Indian and Alaska Native children and make policy recommendations to Attorney General Eric Holder.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The advisory committee that will be co-chaired by former U.S. Sen. Byron Dorgan of North Dakota will hold four public hearings beginning in Bismarck, N.D., on Dec. 9. Associate Attorney General Tony West will attend that hearing. The others will be in Phoenix, Ariz.; Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and Anchorage, Alaska early next year.<\/p>\n

MINOT, N.D. (AP) – A program that will help homeowners in Minot with repair costs following devastating Souris River flooding two years ago is proving popular.

\n\u00a0 More than 700 people have applied for assistance from a program that offers grants of up to $10,000 to those who qualify. The application period began about a month ago and runs through the end of the year.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The money is coming from a $35 million grant award through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. About $5 million is being set aside for the flood repair reimbursements. The city expects to dole out the money between next February and June.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The June 2011 flood damaged or destroyed more than 4,000 homes, businesses and other structures in North Dakota’s fourth-largest city.<\/p>\n

Some are supporting legislation that would make major changes in the law.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TACLOBAN, Philippines (AP) – Police say they’ve restored order in the Philippine city that was nearly wiped out by last week’s typhoon. But the city’s mayor is quoted as calling on residents to flee the city, saying local authorities were having trouble providing food and water and maintaining order. According to The New York Times, the mayor said the city desperately needs trucks to distribute relief shipments that have been accumulating at the airport. He says there’s also a need for equipment to remove decaying corpses from the rubble.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 TORONTO (AP) – Toronto’s mayor is as defiant as ever, refusing demands from nearly every member of the City Council that he take a leave of absence. During a heated council debate Wednesday, Rob Ford insisted that he is not an addict of any kind. But he admitted that he had bought illegal drugs in the past two years. Last week, Ford admitted that he had smoked crack cocaine last year in a “drunken stupor,” but this was the first time he acknowledged having bought illegal drugs.

\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 SEATTLE (AP) – Voters in Seattle are close to electing a Socialist candidate to a city office. Even in left-leaning Seattle, the fact that 41-year-old Kshama Sawant has taken the lead in a City Council race has surprised many people. Following the latest ballot count\u00a0Tuesday \u00a0night, Sawant had a 41-vote lead over incumbent Richard Conlin. Given Washington state’s mail-in voting system, a definitive winner won’t be named for days or even weeks. Sawant has backed efforts to raise the minimum wage to $15, favors rent control and supports a tax on millionaires to fund city needs.
