(AP) A judge set bail at $1 million cash for a white supremacist accused of trying to turn the small southwestern North Dakota town of Leith into an Aryan enclave. \u00a0Sixty-two-year-old Craig Cobb is being held in the Stanton jail on seven charges of terrorizing residents. A bond hearing was held Friday in Bismarck.<\/p>\n
Cobb’s court-appointed attorney, Ryan Heintz, asked for $50,000 bond. Judge Cynthia Feland agreed with the state’s recommendation of $1 million cash because she considers Cobb to be a flight risk.<\/p>\n
A handcuffed Cobb appeared by video from the Mercer County Courthouse. \u00a0Justices ruled earlier this week that there was no evidence to support holding Cobb without bail.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Cobb and 29-year-old acquaintance Kynan Dutton last appeared for a bond review on Monday in Stanton. Dutton was released.<\/p>\n
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) – The North Dakota Supreme Court says a 62-year-old white supremacist who tried to turn the small southwestern North Dakota town of Leith into an Aryan enclave has a right to bond.<\/p>\n
The\u00a0 court filed documents Tuesday saying the district court should set a reasonable bond by Friday, even though two court judges had already decided to hold him without bond.<\/p>\n
Craig Cobb is being held in the Stanton jail on seven charges of terrorizing residents of Leith while on an armed patrol of Cobb’s property in town.<\/p>\n
The court said there’s no evidence in Cobb’s case to support no bond, a situation usually reserved for a capital offense.<\/p>\n
