Lenora Whelchel, 79, Sydney, ND died Early Thursday morning December<\/p>\n
26, 2013 at her home in Sydney.<\/p>\n
Lenora Henke was born May 16, 1934 on the farm in Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Fred Henke and Hanna (Schnieder)<\/p>\n
Henke. She received her elementary education at the local school and grew<\/p>\n
to womanhood in the vicinity.<\/p>\n
She and Donald Whelchel were married October 26,<\/p>\n
1974 at Jamestown, ND. They made their home in<\/p>\n
Jamestown until 1988 when they moved to a farm near<\/p>\n
Sydney. After the death of her husband in January of<\/p>\n
2010, she continued to reside in Sydney.<\/p>\n
She faithfully attended the First Baptist Church. She<\/p>\n
owned the Little Jim’s Caf\u00e9 in Jamestown where she met<\/p>\n
her husband Don. They later started Northside Grocery<\/p>\n
until selling it and purchasing the Gackle Grocery Store.<\/p>\n
She operated the store until her retirement in 2008. She<\/p>\n
loved to cook and do gardening and canning.<\/p>\n
She is survived by her children, Virginia (Jeff) Brown,<\/p>\n
Jamestown ND; Wallace Wiest, Fargo, ND; MariAnn<\/p>\n
(Troy) Letcher, Jamestown, ND; Dennis (Eva) Wiest<\/p>\n
Jamestown, ND; Ronald (Twila) Whelchel, Esbon, KS;<\/p>\n
Kathy Fairbanks, Sedgewick, KS; 17 grandchildren; 22<\/p>\n
great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; 3 brothers,<\/p>\n
Wilfred Henke; Art Henke, both of Jamestown, ND; Melvin<\/p>\n
Henke, AZ; and 1 half brother, Delbert Henke, Nortonville,<\/p>\n
ND.<\/p>\n
She was preceded in death by her parents and step<\/p>\n
mother; husband; 1 son, Steven; 1 stepson, Don, 2<\/p>\n
brothers, Verjane; Fred and 2 step brothers, Duwayne<\/p>\n
Eckman and Marvin Eckman.<\/p>\n
Funeral Service – 10:30 AM Tuesday December 31,<\/p>\n
2013 at the Haut Funeral chapel in Jamestown, ND with<\/p>\n
Pastor Wayne Bangs, officiating<\/p>\n
