Art Schmidt, 91, Gackle, ND died Monday May 4, 2014 at the Wishek Hospital in Wishek, ND.<\/p>\n
Arthur Schmidt was born May 10, 1922 on the family farm near Gackle, ND, the son of John Schmidt and Christina (Bentz) Schmidt. He grew to manhood in the area.<\/p>\n
He and Rachel Janke were married June 30, 1946 in Gackle. They made their home on a farm 10 miles south of Gackle. After the death of his wife in 1999 Art moved into Gackle.<\/p>\n
He was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church.<\/p>\n
He is survived by his 4 sons, Rodney (Clareen) Schmidt, Chandler, AZ; Ardell (Barbara) Schmidt, Gackle, ND; Donavan (Roxie) Schmidt, Hudson, IA; Emery (Jim Swearingen) Schmidt, New Port, KY; 1 daughter, Mary Ann (Wayne) Widmer, Jud, ND; 6 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Edwin Schmidt, Stillwater, MN; 1 sister, Flora Schweitzer, Boise, ID; Brother-in-law Willie (Joann) Janke, Gackle, ND and good friend and neighbor, Judy Schultz.<\/p>\n
Funeral Service – 1:30 PM Saturday May 10, 2014 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Gackle, ND<\/p>\n
Interment – St. James Lutheran Cemetery South of Gackle, ND<\/p>\n
Visitation: 9 \u2013 5 Friday at the Haut Funeral Chapel in Gackle<\/p>\n
