\"dailybread\"<\/a>Jamestown (CSi ) The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program announces the expansion of its program through the location of a food freezer at the MOST (Meaningful Out-of School Time) summer program.\u3000 This nine week program is held at Washington School.<\/p>\n

The Washington School MOST summer program is one of 13 summer programs offered through the South East Education Cooperative (SEEC).\u3000 The MOST program supports the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during\u3000out-of-school time\u3000for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and\/or low-performing schools. The program helps students meet state and local\u3000education standards in core academic subjects, such as reading and math.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Shelley Mansavage, MOST program coordinator, says,”We know that some of the home situations are such that these families would appreciate a helping hand in finding food sources.\u3000 As our children and their families leave for the day, we can encourage them to take this free food out of the freezer for their evening and weekend meals.”\u3000<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent, Rob Lech says, “The placement of the Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown freezer at Washington school for the MOST program is on a pilot basis.\u3000 We want to see how this food program will integrate with our students and their families.\u3000 It is an intriguing solution to the hunger problem in Jamestown.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program has been offering free surplus frozen meals at its first location, the Ave Maria Village for about\u3000three years.\u3000 This spring, the program expanded to include delivery of food to the James River Senior Citizens Center, two locations at the Community Action Centers and the Salvation Army.<\/p>\n

Tom Geffre, Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown Steering Committee member, adds, “Our Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown steering committee wanted to target families, especially families with young children. The MOST summer program is the perfect opportunity to make this happen.\u3000 We are very grateful for the support that we have received from the MOST program and the Jamestown Public Schools Administration.\u3000 The food is free, and there are no registration requirements.\u3000 We only ask that the individuals remember that there are others that also need the food.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

“The Daily Bread- Jamestown program has recently added the Knights of Columbus Hall, Emma Rosie’s catering, TJ’s catering\u3000and the Quality Inn in Jamestown as food donors.\u3000 The Daily Bread is continuing to seek out additional food suppliers.\u3000 The mission is to have all available food rescued and used to feed hungry individuals in the area.\u3000 Local RSVP+ volunteers pick up the donated food and deliver it to our freezer locations.”<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

The Daily Bread \u2013 Jamestown program is patterned off of the Daily Bread programs that have been operating successfully for years in Fargo and Bismarck, ND.\u3000\u3000 The federal “Good Samaritan” law protects the supplier of this food.\u3000 The kitchens that prepare this food must be ND Department of Health certified kitchens.\u3000<\/p>\n
