{"id":53476,"date":"2014-09-03T07:00:31","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T12:00:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=53476"},"modified":"2014-09-03T09:34:03","modified_gmt":"2014-09-03T14:34:03","slug":"projected-jps-deficit-larger","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=53476","title":{"rendered":"Projected JPS deficit larger"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Rob-Leich1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-53494\" alt=\"Rob Leich1\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/Rob-Leich1-240x300.jpg\" width=\"168\" height=\"210\" \/><\/a>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Rob Lech told the school board Tuesday evening that the district is projecting a $1.3 million deficit at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.<\/p>\n<p>In July this year, the Jamestown Public School Board approved a preliminary budget that only saw an $800,000 deficit.<\/p>\n<p>Lech indicated that the main reason for the difference is the preliminary budget did not include early retirement costs, which made up a significant portion of the extra $500,000.<\/p>\n<p>The School Board will meet on Monday October 6, 2014, and hold a public budget meeting at 6-p.m., to address the deficit \u00a0at the middle school&#8217;s Thompson Room during the board&#8217;s regular meeting.<\/p>\n<p>Technology Director Mike Armitage&#8217;s report included building safety upgrades that included 24 new digital security cameras, replacing all the cameras at the Career and Technology Center and the middle school.<\/p>\n<p>The middle school has received two additional cameras and 51 handheld, multi-channel radios, with each school building having its own channel, with one master channel for the entire district.<\/p>\n<p>The radios are used for playground supervision plus a back-up communication system in the event that phone lines were to go out.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown Public Schools Superintendent Rob Lech told the school board Tuesday evening that the district is projecting a $1.3 million deficit at the end of the 2014-2015 school year.
