News) \u2013 The Stutsman County Sheriff\u2019s Office Friday afternoon, (Oct 12,2012) reminded county residents that the burn restriction remains in place.<\/p>\n<p>Outdoor burning is not allowed in the county whenever the Fire Danger Index is in the Very High and Extreme categories.<\/p>\n<p>The fine for burning during the burn restriction is up to $1000.<\/p>\n<p>Fire Danger Index information can be found at StutsmanCounty.org or by calling the Stutsman County Dispatch Center at 701-252-1000.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday afternoon, (Oct 13, 2012) about 3-p.m., the Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called to a a slough west of Cavendish Farms, east of Jamestown, where about 10 acres of cattails were on fire.<\/p>\n<p>Rural firefighters were on the scene about 90- minutes.<\/p>\n<p>The Rural Fire Department went out about 7 p.m. Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>No details were immediately available.<\/p>\n<p>With the strong wind and dry conditions, the Jamestown Rural Fire Department was called out to a grass fire Friday afternoon about 1:30-p.m, (Oct 12, 2012) east of Buchanan.<\/p>\n<p>The fire started in a ditch, spread for about half a mile with the likely cause a discarded cigarette.<\/p>\n<p>There was no major property damage reported.<\/p>\n<p>About 2:15 \u2013p.m., Friday, the Kensal Fire Department was call to a corn field fire southwest of Kensal, 3 to 4 miles northwest of the Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge Headquarters.<\/p>\n<p>Later Friday, he Jamestown Rural Fire Department was dispatched again to a report of a fire south of Eldridge, about 5:45 p.m. in a field about one-quarter of a mile south of the Eldridge I-94 Exit, about five miles west of Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>The property owners had the fire contained, and the call was cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) \u2014 Jamestown Police report a railroad crossing arm was struck about 11:30 a.m. on Friday (Oct 12, 2012) at 3<sup>rd<\/sup> Street, Southeast, in Jamestown.<\/p>\n<p>Police on the scene said a vehicle struck the crossing arm on the south side of the crossing, as it was heading east on 3rd street.<\/p>\n<p>No vehicle was at the scene when police arrived.<\/p>\n<p>Damage was confined to knocking the arm loose from the unit, and some dangling wires.<\/p>\n<p>A BNSF worker was getting material to reattach the arm.<\/p>\n<p>The crossing arms at that location have been hit a few times over the past few months, with the installation of the median as part of the railroad Quiet Zone<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown, ND (KCSi-T.V. News) &#8212;\u00a0 On Friday\u2019s (Oct 12, 2012) Wayne Byers Show on CSi Cable 2, James River Humane Socity President, Jennifer Barnard, said October is Adopt A Shelter Dog Month, as all dogs over the age of one year can be adopted at a discount of $75.<\/p>\n<p>Ms. Barnard said, for the first time in a few years, the Humane Society has to increase the cost of the adoption fee, for dogs and cats, from $100 to $135, effective, November 1, 2012.<\/p>\n<p>She pointed out that the increase is necessary to support the costs of operating the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>All animals are spayed or neutered, with all shots given.<\/p>\n<p>Fundraisers coming up include, October 27, 2012, Taco in a Bag will be sold at the Buffalo Mall from 11-a.m., to 2-p.m., for $5 including a beverage, with items donated by local businesses.<\/p>\n<p>Cookbooks will be sold for the holidays, beginning in November, at a cost of a $20 donation to the shelter, which Ms. Barnard says make great Christmas gifts.<\/p>\n<p>She added that individuals recycling beverage cans at Gerdau Ameristeel in Jamestown may designate the money received to the James River Humane Society.<\/p>\n<p>The recycler is at 1510 10<sup>th<\/sup> Street Southeast in Jamestown, open Monday through Friday from 8-a.m., to 5-p.m.<\/p>\n<p>She noted that the Lloyd\u2019s Motors fundraiser is now through November this year, with a portion of sales donated to the shelter.<\/p>\n<p>\u3000<\/p>\n<p>From Stephanie Mayfield Festival of Trees Coordinator<\/p>\n<p>Valley City, ND (KCSi-T.V. (AP Oct 15, 2012) \u2013\u00a0A weekend tractor fire in southeastern North Dakota\u2019s Barnes County killed an 87-year-old rural Litchville man.<br \/>\nSheriff Randy McClaflin says,Wesley Ten Pas was burning a slough Saturday when the flames grew out of control and burned the tractor he was driving.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Ten Pas was taken to a Minneapolis burn hospital, where he died.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>CASSELTON, N.D. (AP) \u2013 Authorities say a 69-year-old man was killed when he was struck by a train in Casselton.<\/p>\n<p>He has been identified as Eugene Kaatz, of Casselton.<\/p>\n<p>The accident happened Saturday afternoon (Oct 13,2012) at a crossing on state Highway 18, or Langer Avenue.<\/p>\n<p>Witnesses say a westbound train had cleared the intersection when Kaatz began to cross the tracks while the crossing gates were down. He was struck by an eastbound train.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say the engineer of the train had sounded his horn to warn the pedestrian.<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police say a Bismarck man has been<br \/>\narrested for stealing from the sub shop where he worked.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The 42-year-old man was reportedly identified from the<br \/>\nrestaurant&#8217;s video surveillance tape, which showed him stealing a<br \/>\nsafe, as well as money from the cash register.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The burglary happened between 5 and 5:30 a.m. Saturday at a<br \/>\nQuiznos restaurant. A store manager told police that the suspect<br \/>\nwas an employee who had closed the store the night before.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 A police spokesman say the investigation cleared up a previous<br \/>\nburglary at the restaurant.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Ten neighbors of a North Dakota farmer<br \/>\nwho is battling cancer have banded together to harvest his sugar<br \/>\nbeets.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 The beets belong to Manvel&#8217;s Thomas Ronan, who is recovering<br \/>\nfrom surgery to treat the cancer. Shirley Meyer is supporting a proposed tax<br \/>\nbreak for oil refining. It would exempt oil from North Dakota&#8217;s 6.5<br \/>\npercent extraction tax if the oil is processed at a North Dakota<br \/>\nrefinery.<br \/>\n\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Meyer says the idea will promote more refinery development.
