Jamestown (CSi) A 39 year old Jamestown man accused of a number of thefts committed while working for a plumbing and heating company was sentenced Thursday in Southeast District Court in Jamestown.<\/p>\n
Chad Lee Gourneau, pleaded guilty to the charges, three Class C felony charges of theft of property worth more than $1,000, and two Class B misdeneanor counts of theft of property valued at less than $500.<\/p>\n
He was accused of taking property from five different homes in Jamestown.<\/p>\n
Most of the property stolen was collectible coins and jewelry. Some of the property is still in the possession of Jamestown Police and has not been claimed by the owners.<\/p>\n
Judge Jay Schmitz sentenced Gourneau, to one year and one day in prison, at the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with credit for 18 days served. The jail time is to be served concurrently with the sentence he received on other charges.<\/p>\n
Schmitz said the intent of the sentence was for Gourneau to make restitution.<\/p>\n
A restitution hearing will be scheduled in the next month to determine the amount owed to victims in the most recent charges.<\/p>\n
Gourneau previously pleaded guilty to burglary, a Class B felony, and theft of property, a Class B misdemeanor, in related incidents. He was sentenced to one year and one day in the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation with three months suspended. He was also ordered to pay $3,800 in restitution.<\/p>\n
Property seized from Gourneau but not claimed by any victim could be sold and the proceeds used to offset the restitution owed.<\/p>\n
Assistant State\u2019s Attorney Kathryn Naumann recommended a two-year prison sentence be served after the completion of the previous sentence.<\/p>\n
