{"id":72256,"date":"2015-05-11T19:51:26","date_gmt":"2015-05-12T00:51:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=72256"},"modified":"2015-05-12T09:32:41","modified_gmt":"2015-05-12T14:32:41","slug":"legislative-report-csi-replay","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=72256","title":{"rendered":"Legislative Report replay on CSi 67"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dist1229-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-72314\" alt=\"Dist12&amp;29-1\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dist1229-1-286x300.jpg\" width=\"286\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dist1229-1-286x300.jpg 286w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dist1229-1-166x175.jpg 166w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/Dist1229-1.jpg 288w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 286px) 100vw, 286px\" \/><\/a>Jamestown (CSi) District 12 and 29 state legislators presented\u00a0an end of session wrap up discussion Monday evening at Jamestown\u00a0City Hall, live on CSi 67.<\/p>\n<p>Presented by the Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce Local-Regional Issues, Committee, legislators on hand included:<\/p>\n<p>District 29<\/p>\n<p>State Senator (R) Terry Wanzek<\/p>\n<p>State Representative ( R ) Chet Pollert<\/p>\n<p>State Representative (R) Craig Headland<\/p>\n<p>District 12<\/p>\n<p>State Senator ( D ) John Grabinger<\/p>\n<p>State Represenative ( D ) Jessica Haak<\/p>\n<p>State Representative ( R ) Alex Looysen<\/p>\n<p>The moderator, Pam Phillips outlined the format which allowed audience members to ask\u00a0 general questions to the overall panel\u00a0for each reply to.\u00a0 Questions came from residents of Jamestown, Valley City, Carrington, \u00a0and other nearby-by towns.<\/p>\n<p>Opening\u00a0 statements had each legislator give their view of the session.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Wanzek pointed out income and property tax relief packages.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Grabinger said it was a session of &#8220;missed opportunities,&#8221; in such areas of funding for substance abuse programs, and suicide prevetion, and addressing prison overcrowding.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Pollert indicated the session resulted in the corrections budget being increased.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Haak said the session had &#8220;peaks\u00a0and valleys,&#8221; noting the passage of\u00a0the family leave bill, addressing the stalking code, and additional funding to assist victims of human trafficking.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Headland said it was a great session foe conservatives, noting also expansion of early childhood education programs and the passage of tax relief.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Looysen \u00a0pointed to the accomplishments of funding public education at higher levels.<\/p>\n<p>Each addressed the failure to pass the equal rights bill based on sexual orientation. regarding housing and workplace issues.\u00a0\u00a0 Sen. Grabinger co-sponsored the bill, which was supported by Rep. Haak. Each of the local Republican\u00a0legislators voted against the bill.<\/p>\n<p>Senator Wanzek explained the language in his bill, co-sponsored by Rep. Headland, concerning allowing corporate farming for dairy and hog farming, which became law, and may be referred to voters. Wanzek said if the law is referred, the entire issue of not allowing corporate farming in North Dakota may face a court challenge.<\/p>\n<p>Other items addressed by the panel, some stemming from the audience, concerned the areas of the stabilization of oil extraction taxes, tax relief in lieu of dollars to fund programs, and funding for law enforcement, affordable housing funding,<\/p>\n<p>Other issues were addressed and the discussion was shown on CSi Cable 67, followed by replays.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown (CSi) District 12 and 29 state legislators presented\u00a0an end of session wrap up discussion Monday evening at Jamestown\u00a0City Hall, live on CSi 67.
