Jamestown (CSi) Jamestown officials received calls stemming from the weekend storm that dropped more than 5 inches of rain and snow on Jamestown.<\/p>\n
The large amount of rain inundated the recently cleaned storm sewer system and caused sewage backups into a number of homes in southeast Jamestown.<\/p>\n
Utilities Operations Manager, Steve Suko, says reports included, a water and sewage mix up to nearly 16 inches deep.<\/p>\n
One report was from a home the corner of 3rd Avenue and 8th Street Southeast, the second event for the home in the past seven years.<\/p>\n
Suko estimated he had received about 20 calls by Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n
He added that the problem related to the recent storm drain cleanout in that the sanitary sewer is below the storm sewer. When the storm sewer was cleaned, it allowed water into the sanitary system.<\/p>\n
The city of Jamestown awarded a $191,000 contract to Scherbenske Inc. in January to clean about 6,000 feet of storm sewer.<\/p>\n
The volume of water damaged the temporary fixes.<\/p>\n
The city plans for repairs in those areas and advertise for bids to repair the problem, relating to the age and design of the storm and sanitary sewer.<\/p>\n
City crews\u00a0should be able to go into the storm sewer and make repairs on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The Jamestown City Council’s Public Works Commiitte on Thursday this week will be given updates on storm sewer cleaning and possible repairs.<\/p>\n
Damage also occurred to 4th Street Northeast near the\u00a0University of Jamestown\u00a0football stadium.\u00a0 Water there washed out part of the street on Sunday.<\/p>\n
Roads south of Spiritwood Lake and south of Spiritwood were reported flooded, although damage to the roads was not anticipated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
