TM at Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Arrowwood National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) will host a Big Sit! at the Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area. This FREE, fun event will be held<strong> Sunday, October 11<sup>th<\/sup> from 7:30 am \u2013 dark at the Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area on the Refuge.<\/strong> Come for an hour or so, or join us all day. The Refuge is located northeast of Pingree (off Highway 281) or southwest of Kensal (off Highway 9).<\/p>\n<p>The Big Sit! is<a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/refugeweblogo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-55815\" alt=\"refugeweblogo\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/refugeweblogo-300x202.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"202\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/refugeweblogo-300x202.jpg 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/refugeweblogo-259x175.jpg 259w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/refugeweblogo.jpg 445w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a> an annual, international, non-competitive birding event hosted by Bird Watcher&#8217;s Digest and founded by the New Haven (CT) Bird Club. The Big Sit! has been adopted by the National Wildlife Refuge System as part of National Wildlife Refuge Week celebrations. The Big Sit! is similar to a Big Day or a bird-a-thon in that the object is to tally as many bird species seen or heard within 24 hours from a 17-foot diameter circle. Some people have called it a &#8220;tailgate party for birders.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The Arrowwood NWR is just one of over 550 National Wildlife Refuges spread throughout the country. Today, the National Wildlife Refuge System encompasses more than 94 million acres, dedicated to its mission of wildlife conservation. The Big Sit! allows birders of all ages as well as the non-birding public to enjoy their local National Wildlife Refuge.<\/p>\n<p>THIS FREE EVENT is OPEN to every person; young or older, birder, nature enthusiast or just a refuge visitor looking for something to do!<\/p>\n<p>Join us for free Chili (sponsored by Birding Drives Dakota \u2013 Friends Group of the Refuge), coffee or tea and snacks.<\/p>\n<p align=\"center\">The Warbler Woodland Wildlife Viewing Area is located on the east side of Arrowwood Lake, north of 11<sup>th<\/sup> Street SE. From Highway 281, turn east on to 11<sup>th<\/sup> St. SE and go about 6.5 miles. From Highway 20, turn west onto Highway 9, go about 5 miles and turn west onto 11<sup>th<\/sup> St SE and go about 4.5 miles to the entrance of the Warbler Woodland.
