{"id":85463,"date":"2015-10-22T09:00:34","date_gmt":"2015-10-22T14:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=85463"},"modified":"2015-10-24T22:20:11","modified_gmt":"2015-10-25T03:20:11","slug":"jmst-forestry-receives-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/?p=85463","title":{"rendered":"Jamestown Forestry receives award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/forestryaward2015.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-85464\" alt=\"forestryaward2015\" src=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/forestryaward2015-300x201.png\" width=\"300\" height=\"201\" srcset=\"http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/forestryaward2015-300x201.png 300w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/forestryaward2015-260x175.png 260w, http:\/\/csinewsnow.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/forestryaward2015.png 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce reports, Jamestown has received the Community of the Year, Award, for its forestry program.<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown received the award for its work to grow and diversify it&#8217;s urban forest.<\/p>\n<p>Over the last two years the City Of Jamestown has:<\/p>\n<p>1)Developed a landscape ordinance which requires commercial properties and institutions to landscape their properties with trees and shrubs.<\/p>\n<p>2) Started the Planting Partners Program which is a privately funded cost share program that gives homeowners and citizens up to $50 back and a limit of $400 per property for planting trees on the boulevard.<\/p>\n<p>3) Constructed a gravel bed nursery which allows the city to purchase bareroot trees at a very low cost.<\/p>\n<p>These trees are held in the gravel bed through the summer which allows them to put on substantial amounts of roots and then they are planted in the fall. This root growth results in an extremely high survival rate. The gravel bed nursery could allow the city to be very proactive in building a diverse, resilient urban forest.<\/p>\n<p>4) The City Of Jamestown has also planted over 400 trees in the last two years including the 233 trees in the East Business Loop Landscape Project.<\/p>\n<p>The Chamber congratulates Jamestown City Forester, Doug Wiles for the hard work as the City Forester for accomplishing all these projects.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Area Chamber of Commerce reports, Jamestown has received the Community of the Year, Award, for its forestry program.
