HIGHS IN<br \/>\nTHE MID 70S.<\/p>\n<p>THERE IS A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS IN WESTERN AND CENTRAL NORTH<br \/>\nDAKOTA FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi)\u00a0 Following the resignation of Valley City Mayor Bob Werhoven last week, Deputy Mayor Matt Pedersen has become the interim Mayor of Valley City.<\/p>\n<p>Valley City officials have these options to fill the mayor&#8217;s position uner the North Dakota Century Code (NDCC 40-09-10.)<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0City Commission\u00a0may call a special election to fill the unexpired term, or may, after 15 days appoint a person to fill the unexpired term.<\/p>\n<p>Another option is upon a petition of 5 percent of the qualified electors (based on the total number of ballots cast in the last city general election) the city commission must call a special election if there is more than 6 months left on the term and the petition has been submitted within 15 days of the vacancy.<\/p>\n<p>The 15 days doesn\u2019t start until the city commission has formally accepted the resignation at a regular or special city commission meeting. (NDCC 40-09-04.)<\/p>\n<p>The city commission may accept the mayor\u2019s resignation during the next regular city commission meeting on Tuesday, May 17th. The current mayoral term in Valley City ends June of 2018.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Update&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Jamestown (CSi) The Jamestown Water Department Superintendent, Steve Suko says, a service line to a residence was the cause of notifying residents of a possible water main break, Monday in Northwest Jamestown, on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>He says the service line break was in the 1000 block of 8<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue Northwest, and affected 8-10 homes on one side of the block.<\/p>\n<p>He says the service line will likely be repaired, rather than replaced, and the work needs to be done by a licensed plumber as the city can not perform the work on service lines.<\/p>\n<p>He expected that the work should be finished by the end of the day, Monday.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Valley City (CSi) The Valley City Area Chamber of Commerce has outlined changes in the June 14, 2016 election.<\/p>\n<p>Applications for those who want to vote early have been mailed out to all active voters in Barnes County.<\/p>\n<p>Voters may complete and sign the application, and return it to the Barnes County Auditor\u2019s Office. When the application is received in the Auditor\u2019s Office, receipt of the application will be logged into the Central Voter File, and the appropriate ballot will be mailed to the voter. The summit is limited to 30 female elected officials from across the nation. The summit will be held in Arlington, VA on Thursday, June 16 and Friday, June 17.<\/p>\n<p>Haak says, &#8220;I am honored to be selected to attend this incredible summit. I look forward to expanding my knowledge on how to combat this atrocious crime and to continue to work with local leaders and at the state level to bring an end to human trafficking in North Dakota.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The summit is a 1.5 day discussion on one of the most critical issues in America today, child sex trafficking. The event offers an organization experts, survivor testimonies, leadership development training, roundtable discussions by Google, the National Center for Mission and Exploited Children, the FBI Innocent Lost Initiative, Demand Abolition, and Shared Hope International.<\/p>\n<p>The NFWL is a non-partisan 501(c)3 educational foundation for elected women on the state, county, and municipal level. Its goal is to provide strategic resources to elected women, exchange of diverse legislative ideas, and effective governance through conferences, state outreach, educational materials, and personal relationships.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Update&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Police say they have found a man considered to be a person of interest in the death of a woman whose body was discovered in a Fargo town house over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>A friend found the body of 40-year-old Cory Terlecky about 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Police have classified the death as a homicide, but have not said how Terlecky died. An autopsy is being conducted Monday.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 Police say they located the person of interest, 22-year-old Landon Lauwagie (loo-WAG&#8217;-ee) in southern Minnesota. Investigators plan to interview Lauwagie to determine whether he is a suspect.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Fargo Police Lt. Joe Anderson says the incident does not appear to be a random act of violence.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson says the original report to police described the incident as a woman who was having a heart attack.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>BOTTINEAU, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The Highway Patrol has identified a 24-year-old Bottineau man who died in a single-vehicle crash over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities say Cody Block lost control of his pickup truck on a Bottineau County road, and the vehicle rolled in the ditch.<\/p>\n<p>Block died at the scene. He was alone in the pickup.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities were notified of the crash shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday. The exact time it happened isn&#8217;t known.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The U.S. Department of Agriculture says frost in North Dakota during the past week damaged some early planted and emerged crops.<\/p>\n<p>The USDA&#8217;s National Agriculture Statistics Service says rainfall of up to a half inch fell across the state, leaving 5.8 days suitable for fieldwork.<\/p>\n<p>About 68 percent of the Durum wheat crop is planted, near last year&#8217;s 64 percent and well ahead of the 36-percent five-year average. Thirty-four percent of the crop is emerged.<\/p>\n<p>The winter wheat crop is 51 percent jointed.<\/p>\n<p>Spring wheat is 87 percent planted, barley is 87 percent planted, oats are 83 percent planted and corn is 76 percent planted. The soybean crop is 52 percent planted, canola is 60 percent planted and sunflowers are 21 percent planted.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WILLISTON, N.D. (AP) &#8211; Williston State College President Raymond Nadolny says he&#8217;ll resign his position in June 2017 to spend more time with family.<\/p>\n<p>Nadolny announced the resignation to staff on Monday, saying he&#8217;ll continue serving in the role until the end of his contract period on June 30, 2017. He says with aging parents and family separated on two coasts, it&#8217;s time to be closer to those he has been away from over his past seven years in the president&#8217;s role.<\/p>\n<p>Nadolny during his tenure oversaw the construction of Frontier Hall, the CTE Building, the new TrainND building and the Science Center.<\/p>\n<p>In 2014, University System Interim Chancellor Larry Skogen placed Nadolny on indefinite leave pending an investigation into alleged alcohol misconduct. Nadolny returned to his post within a month.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &#8211; The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources says the final environmental review for the proposed Fargo-Moorhead flood diversion project identifies several significant concerns that will have to be addressed before permits could be granted. DNR Commissioner Tom Landwehr says in a statement Monday that a particular concern is how the project would impact the area upstream. The review is available for public comment through May 31.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Sports&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) &#8211; A multi-year study of walleye in Lake Oahe in the Dakotas is showing that anglers are not over-fishing the resource.<\/p>\n<p>Crews this spring are wrapping up a four-year effort to tag tens of thousands of walleyes in the Missouri River fishery to learn more about them.<\/p>\n<p>Preliminary results already have given biologists valuable information, including data on the percentage of catchable-size fish being harvested by anglers. The angling mortality rate in the first three years of the study has ranged from 17-27 percent.<\/p>\n<p>North Dakota Fisheries Chief Greg Power says angler mortality rates in comparable lakes in the region also are in the 25 percent range. He says total walleye mortality in Oahe is about 35-40 percent, below the typical range in North America of 40-55 percent.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>FARGO, N.D. (AP) &#8211; The North Dakota State University softball team has claimed its third straight Summit League Championship and will make its seventh appearance in the NCAA Tournament in eight years.<br \/>\nThe Bison won the league crown over the weekend with a 10-1 victory over IUPUI and earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.<br \/>\nNDSU will open against Big Ten champion Minnesota on Friday in the Seattle Regional hosted by the University of Washington. They&#8217;re offering President Barack Obama just one-third of the money he requested almost three months ago. The measure is scheduled for a vote later this week. The Senate is scheduled to vote on several competing Zika proposals Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>WASHINGTON (AP) &#8211; The Supreme Court has failed to resolve a dispute between faith-based groups and the Obama administration over birth control. The justices are asking lower courts to take another look at the issue. The case concerns the administration&#8217;s arrangement for sparing faith-based groups from having to pay for birth control for women covered under their health plans.<\/p>\n<p>LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) &#8211; Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton is stumping in Kentucky, which holds its presidential primary Tuesday. Clinton is trying to stave off another defeat by Bernie Sanders, who visited Puerto Rico Monday ahead of a June 5th primary. Sanders called on the government to support a debt restructure in the U.S. territory, warning of a humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n<p>MEXICO CITY (AP) &#8211; A second Mexican judge has ruled that the extradition of drug lord Joaquin &#8220;El Chapo&#8221; Guzman (wah-KEEN&#8217; el CHAH&#8217;-poh gooz-MAHN&#8217;) to the United States can go forward. The process is still waiting for approval from Mexico&#8217;s foreign ministry. The judge&#8217;s decision announced by the courts Monday was on an extradition request from a federal court in Texas.<\/p>\n<p>CHICAGO (AP) &#8211; Chicago-area police have issued a well-being check for Irish singer and musician Sinead (shih-NAYD&#8217;) O&#8217;Connor. She reportedly went for a bicycle ride Sunday morning in the northern suburb of Wilmette but never returned.
